Identify, develop, and implement different strategies for SSL applied to single cell and spatial omics data.
Systematically evaluate the impact and effectiveness of the different aforementioned strategies.
Document and summarize the findings throughout the course of the project. Present these findings during internal peer review meetings.
If applicable, submit findings to a relevant conference or journal.
Intensive 12-weeks full time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
Program start dates are in May/June (Summer).
A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.
Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.
Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.
Lead or participate in intern committees to design and coordinate program events and initiatives.
Professional & personal development curriculum throughout the program, including networking opportunities, workshops, and panel discussions.
Participate in volunteer projects, social events, and team-building activities.
It’s beneficial if the candidate has experience with the fundamentals of sequencing-based transcriptomics approaches (e.g., RNA-seq, scRNA-seq).
Familiarity with VCS (version control systems) like Git, and repository management (e.g., GitHub or GitLab).
Expertise in machine learning
Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

2024 Summer Intern - Biology Research AI Development ( BRAID)
The BRAID (Biology Research AI Development) department drives research within the larger gRED organization from a machine learning and AI perspective. Our department’s interest spans a broad range of machine learning topics applied to a variety of different domains, including the use of representation learning to model and analyze single-cell omics data. This internship focuses on the exploration and evaluation of different regimens of representation learning, an approach that has shown much potential to render informative representations of biological data.
This internship position is located in South San Francisco, Onsite.

Required Education:
- Must hold a BSc and actively pursuing a MSc or PhD
Preferred majors:
- Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computational Biology or related majors
Required skills:
- Experience with representation and self-supervised learning techniques.
- Proficient skills in one or multiple high-level programming languages such as Python or Julia.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position in California is $22.00 - $55.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
