What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Conduct social, behavioral, and economic sciences (SBES) research to inform decision-making for the National Weather Service (NWS)
- Collaborate with NWS Social Science Program members and develop qualitative and quantitative data collection instruments
- Document project status and prepare presentation materials for internal and external audiences
- Assist in evaluating NWS products and services to enhance high-impact weather forecasts
- Provide guidance and expertise during NWS Social Science Program meetings
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant social or behavioral science or interdisciplinary field PLUS 3-4 years of experience managing research projects -OR- Master's Degree in a relevant field PLUS up to 2 years of experience managing research projects
- Experience conducting interviews, focus groups, or surveys
- Proven ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative data
- Demonstrated experience communicating research findings across disciplinary boundaries
- Must be a citizen of the United States or Lawful Permanent Resident with a physical USCIS "Green Card"
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience in applied research and/or evaluation, preferably in environmental sciences
- Knowledge of and experience with the weather, water, and climate enterprise
- Experience learning new skills and perspectives outside of one's disciplinary training
