- Be able to apply required technical knowledge to solve problems that require an innovative approach and skill normally achieved only by keen observation and experience.
- Lifting and transporting various large objects using lifting and rigging equipment including mobile and overhead cranes, forklifts, dollies, slings, shackles, come-a-longs, hoists, jacks and assorted shop tools such as crimpers, hydraulic and hand binders, flare machines, torque wrenches, calipers, etc.
- Be able to operate, generally maintain all types of light and heavy equipment, both diesel and gasoline engine powered.
- Must know quadrant of operation, read/load charts, know the structural/stability of all cranes and know the dynamic and shock loading of cranes.
- Select, secure and adjust suitable chains, cables, slings, hooks and other lifting and securing devices to properly load/unload and balance a variety of equipment, and other items being moved or positioned by mobile cranes.
- Safety check cranes, forklifts, Aerial Platforms etc., before and after operations.
- Operate Mobile Hydraulic cranes. Operate motor vehicles with responsibility for proper loading and unloading. May operate heavy trucks and truck-trailers (4-ton and over) to transport materials and equipment to various areas within the installation.
- Operate ground support equipment as required to accomplish work assignment.
- Ability to fabricate wire rope and proof load equipment.
- AS degree in related field plus three (3) years of closely related experience or High School education plus five (5) years of directly related experience. Trade School experience and 3+ years of closely related experience will also be considered.
- National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) certification desired.
- Effective verbal and written communicate skills.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to hold the necessary security clearances.
- Ability to obtain and maintain valid certifications, licenses, and permits, as required for performance of assigned tasks.
- Requires the ability to interact effectively with co-workers and managers.
- Will be required to climb stairs in order to access equipment for trouble shooting.
- Climbing ladders and platforms will be necessary.
- Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection and other associated personal protective equipment.
- Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.
- Physical requirements are: sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.
- Must be able to work in tight confined space areas.
- All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards.
- Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex.
- Position requires daily individual to travel to different areas on site.
- Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility.
- Cranes and other heavy equipment such as crane carriers, Hi-Rangers, man lift platforms, hydraulic lifts, spider staging, converter dollies, cargo lift trailers, and tractor/trailers.
- Operate computer terminals, personal computers, and related computer peripheral equipment to maintain/adjust database logs and records, print documents and record work performance.
- Personal computer, scanner, copy machine, telephone, laser printer, fax machine, and other office equipment including desk supplies.
- Work assignments are normally 8 hours shifts, 5 consecutive days per week
- Must be dependable and punctual.
- Occasional overtime, sometimes with short notice, is required to meet demanding schedule
- If offered a position, proof of U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident/Green Card holder of the United States is required.
- Needs to have clear, concise, and accurate communication skills.
- Must have ability to work well with office staff and customer representatives.
- Government security clearance may be required in the future.
- Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from customer location, which may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can be made for POV, if necessary.
- Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
- Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relations with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.
- Must possess and maintain a valid CDL with endorsements Florida driver’s license.
- Must pass a federal background investigation.
- Must comply with all “drug free workplace” requirements as mandated by directives issued by the appropriate federal contracting officer and the company, which requires drug testing for use of illegal drugs by employees in sensitive positions.
