      About the Position


      A Program Chair has oversight of faculty and faculty leadership within a designated content or geographic area for the respective school/college. Assists with the development, implementation, and maintenance of strategies around the faculty lifecycle and ensuring the quality and integrity of the instruction of the school/colleges programs and other educational offerings. Collaborates with local campus stakeholders to build productive relationships with outside organizations.

      • Represent and serve as an advocate for the mission of the school/college and the University to internal and external stakeholders, including the local campuses, shared services, operations, and others.
      • Engage in tasks associated with the direct supervision of staff including, but not limited to: coaching, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, recognition, and development.
      • Collaborate with faculty recruiting teams to identify and recruit qualified faculty while maintaining a sustainable curricular model. Assess program faculty composition considering diversity, visibility, and program goals and teaching effectiveness.
      • Develop and maintain the academic quality and integrity of the college programs and discipline via frequent collaboration and communication with deans. Use data, including student learning outcome, program performance survey data, to ensure program quality.
      • Advise, coach and mentor faculty on how to deliver course content/PD more effectively, with an emphasis on improving student/educator engagement, performance, and success.
      • Evaluate and provide detailed feedback on faculty performance and development through the regular completion of Classroom Performance Reviews (CPR) and/or by overseeing the completion of CPRs by others.
      • Investigate and address performance deficiencies and/or violations of the Faculty Handbook with appropriate remediation and coaching. Implement, communicate, and ensure adherence to academic policies, standards and practices.
      • Assist with the development of strategies in the faculty lifecycle to improve faculty engagement and support. Support, execute, and implement the college’s strategies for faculty.
      • Identify and leverage institutional best practices among faculty and identify the best method of dissemination and distribution of teaching methods that support student success and enhance program quality. Evaluate faculty metrics and other data to identify opportunities for professional development.
      • Act as a content area expert, providing the college with support and feedback in the development, review, and revision of curriculum. provide content area expertise to other stakeholders such as business to business, technology, operations, accreditation, assessment, etc., as needed. Regularly assess student learning in partnership with faculty and use the results to inform strategic decisions.
      • Monitor and evaluate external agencies to determine their effectiveness. Provide recommendations for continued use of agencies.
      • Partner with campus leadership and other stakeholders to identify market opportunities to build relationships and partnerships that will add credibility to the degree program, build the perceived reputation and value of our offerings, and support cohorts of programs/PD/other educational offerings. Represent the school/college as appropriate in its relationship with the community.
      • Participate in and lead task forces to represent and address academic concerns to management team and/or administration. Pan and implement campus and/or regional activities to maximize service quality effectiveness.
      • Maintain a professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing, professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies. This includes maintaining a general knowledge of emerging issues and trends related.
      • Other duties as assigned or apparent.

      MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

      • A graduate degree (Master's or higher) in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
        • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional-level or administrative-level experience in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a related area. This experience should demonstrate practical expertise and leadership in the field, including roles such as law enforcement supervisor, public administrator, policy analyst, or equivalent positions with administrative or managerial responsibility
      • Three (3) years prior teaching experience in higher education, particularly in Criminal Justice or Public Administration programs, is highly desirable.
      • Strong understanding of current issues, trends, and best practices in Criminal Justice and Public Administration.
      • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire faculty and students.
      • Proficiency in utilizing technology and digital tools for teaching, including Learning Management Systems (LMS) and online course delivery platforms specifically Blackboard Ultra (BbU).
      • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
      • A commitment to continuous professional development and staying current with advancements in the field of Criminal Justice and Public Administration.
      • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders.
      • Must be a current faculty member or willing to become faculty upon hiring. This includes meeting all necessary qualifications and obtaining any required approvals or credentials needed to serve as faculty at the institution.

      ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

      • Membership in relevant professional organizations, such as the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA), Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS), or similar, is preferred. Additional certifications in specialized areas of the field (e.g., Certified Public Manager, Certified Law Enforcement Executive) are advantageous.
      • Experience in supervising or mentoring adjunct faculty is also preferred.
      • Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the academic and professional environments.
      • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to communicate with faculty, students, employees and external parties as it relates to the management of the respective campus and college programs.
      • Ability to demonstrate a high level of problem solving and decision-making abilities.
      • Demonstrated a high level of conceptual and strategic thinking to establish budget, goals, and processes, utilize data and activities in conjunction with University standards and guidelines.
      • Strong interpersonal skills, building relationships/partnerships, ability to communicate professionally, persuasively and confidently over phone, email and in face-to-face appointments to accurately convey information and increase positive awareness of the University.
      • Working knowledge of personal software packages to create correspondence, reports and spreadsheets.
      • Ability to convey a professional image, as well as effectively represent the organization as appropriate in its relationship with the community.

      Pay Range

      The annual pay range for this position is $73,400 (minimum), $110,900 (midpoint), and $148,400 (maximum).*

      *Typical hiring range is between the minimum and midpoint of the above pay range. Actual starting base pay may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, location and budget.
