      BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES
      The Legal Assistant’s primary responsibility is to serve as assistant to the General Counsel of GECU Federal Credit Union providing high quality, comprehensive administrative support in carrying out legal responsibilities of GECU.

      Responsible for managing administrative tasks, facilitating communication, and ensuring efficiencies. Duties include schedule/calendar management, organization (filing and documentation), frequent communication (internal, third-party and member), and preparing legal documents. Under attorney supervision, assists with processing of legal matters, special projects and research.

      TYPICAL DUTIES
      Provides administrative support to the General Counsel, which includes scheduling meetings and conferences (video and phone), calendar management, assisting with licensing and CLE requirements, completing expense reports, and monitoring internal and external deadlines.

      Assists in receiving and prioritizing requests for legal assistance from all departments.

      Assists in the preparation and revision of legal documents and correspondence.

      Proofs and edits various legal documents, contracts, correspondence, and forms for accuracy, clarity, grammar, and completeness.

      Composes correspondence, emails, and other documents.

      Assists in processing legal process and requests, including subpoenas, citations/summons, and search warrants.

      Assists in processing powers of attorney and other submissions.

      Assists in answering questions from operational departments regarding legal matters.

      Assists in reviewing, confirming, and updating internal policies and procedures.

      Performs research upon request of General Counsel.

      Assists in maintaining organized electronic and physical files.

      Coordinates daily interoffice and incoming and outgoing mail.

      Assists with special assignments, initiatives and other duties assigned by the General Counsel.

      Maintains a high level of confidentiality and discretion regarding all credit union information.

      Maintains and understands compliance to ensure that work complies with applicable GECU Federal Credit Union established policies, procedures and regulations, to include Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Member Identification Program (MIP), and Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC).

      Other duties as may be assigned or required in connection with the general operation of the credit union.

      Requirements

      CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
      Associate degree, two years college, or equivalent preferred with three (3) years similar or related experience.

      Prior experience in an administrative role at a law firm, in-house legal department or equivalent preferred.

      General knowledge of legal documentation, procedures and requirements preferred.

      Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with a professional demeanor.

      Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a dynamic environment.

      Strong attention to detail and accuracy in completing tasks and managing documents.

      Must maintain a high degree of confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

      Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

      Good clerical skills and working knowledge of personal computers and software applications to include MS Word, Outlook and Excel.

      Ability to learn and perform a wide variety of work and research.

      Requires sitting at a desk the majority of the time and using a computer.

      Occasional standing, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, kneeling, and reaching above and below shoulder level required.

      Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds frequently and occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds.

      Providing quality service is the primary responsibility of this position. Quality service means treating members and coworkers with respect and courtesy at all levels whether in person or by telephone as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

      Availability Requirements: Monday - Friday: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
