      We are currently looking for an individual to join the Emergency Department at the Credit Valley Hospital site. You will work in a highly dynamic environment with an inter-professional team to provide high level of care, support to and advocate for patients in the Emergency Department.

      The Emergency Department (ED) at Credit Valley Hospital strives to exemplify excellence in emergency medicine to serve patients in our community. We aspire to provide compassionate, high quality care within our collaborative and inter-professional environment, with a focus on an inclusiveness and accessibility. Our ED is dedicated to high quality patient and staff experience, patient safety and best possible outcomes.

      We are classified as a very high volume ED as we receive approximately 300 visits per day from all ages, socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. Our specialities include Paediatrics, Oncology and Hemodialysis. We work with a very large inter-professional team including nursing, allied health, physicians, clerical staff, corporate services, spiritual care, and many others.       The Position…

      The Advanced Practice Physiotherapist (APP), is an experienced orthopaedic health professional who delivers expert-level clinical practice within an interprofessional model of care. In collaboration with Emergency Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses and other members of the team, the APP facilitates timely access to quality care. The APP is a champion for best practice, and innovative care models and contributes to quality improvement initiatives to achieve safe, effective, efficient care.       Here’s what you’ll get to do…

      • Perform comprehensive and focused musculoskeletal assessment for select patient populations across the lifespan
      • Use your critical thinking and high-level assessment skills to order appropriate diagnostic testing, communicate and support assessment, diagnosis and decision-making
      • Collaborate as a clinical consultant for the interprofessional team
      • Liaise, connect and act as a resource regarding referral sources and community service providers.
      • Provides education and recommendations to patients, families to support the management of their condition and optimize function in keeping with best practice guidelines
      • Applies current knowledge of a wide range of treatment options to formulate/deliver an individualized treatment and management plan across the care continuum
      • Maintain and expand clinical competence and knowledge base through continued education and lifelong learning
      • Consults and collaborates with Emergency Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses and others on the care team, to establish appropriate care for patients
      • Teaches medical residents and others, MSK assessment and management skills
      • Cast and apply minor wound dressing as needed
      • Help sustain and enhance a new Model of Care for MSK education/triage in one of busiest EDs in Ontario
      • Contributes to the development, evaluation and improvement of team-based care and practice innovations
      • Participates in research and Quality Improvement initiatives
      • Acts as an ambassador for the program
      • Contribute to the development and update of clinic references and policies and procedures

      Here’s what you need…

      • Current registration with College of Physiotherapists of Ontario,
      • Master’s Degree (beyond entry level) or post professional formal education with competency evaluation (Examples include ACPAC, MCLSc, FCAMPT certifications)
      • Minimum 5 years Orthopaedic physical assessment/treatment experience
      • Expert knowledge, complex decision-making skills and clinical competencies to form a foundation for expanded practice
      • Collaborative approach to teaching/learning in a diverse interprofessional environment
      • Demonstrated professional leadership, innovation, team building
      • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage change
      • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
      • Positive attitude and ability to work in a team as well as autonomously
      • Compassion and kindness
      • Previous Emergency Department or med/surg experience an asset
      • Reliable and flexible individual to work as part of a diverse work team.
      • Positive work record essential
