Job summary
We are looking for experienced SLTs wishing to further develop their leadership and clinical skills within the field of adult acute services including neurology, neurosurgery, trauma, Acute/General medicine, DME and General surgery. You will be joining our dynamic SLT team at Addenbrooke's Hospital in the vibrant city of Cambridge! Owing to new investment and some movement within our team we have a selection of permanent full time and part-time positions on offer at Band 6 Level progressing on to Band 7 Level and/or Band 7 level depending on experience.
You will be appointed at Band 6 level and will be supported to complete a range of competencies which will ultimately allow for progression to a Band 7 Advanced Specialist SLT role without the need for any additional recruitment processes.
You will have the opportunity to work alongside other highly specialist SLT clinicians and have regular access to Videofluoroscopy and FEES clinics with opportunities to develop or further enhance your existing skills in the area of instrumental assessments.
The posts offers a robust supervision and appraisal system as well as protected time for CPD and research/audit.
Experience of service development, developing and delivering training, student supervision and close MDT working is ideal. Sound clinical skills and extensive experience, including highly specialist dysphagia skills and complex caseload management in the acute setting are also ideal.
Main duties of the job
The post involves taking a lead role in the assessment and treatment of patients with acquired swallowing and communication disorders, determine diagnosis and identify appropriate SLT treatment as clinically indicated.
You should be able to work as a highly specialist, autonomous practitioner with a clear passion in assessing and managing complex dysphagia, and communication difficulties within an acute setting. Alongside this you will be supported to provide direct line management to members of the SLT team and assist in the delivery of Specialist level training in suitable clinical areas.
Evidence of strong organizational, communication and leadership skills are ideal to compliment your existing and developing speech and language therapy knowledge and skills. You should be passionate about providing effective patient centred care, as well as being highly enthusiastic about service development within adult acute services.
