- Notify victims of cases filed
- Provide information regarding status of cases to victims
- Provide information regarding criminal justice system, case process and victims' rights
- Refer victims to counseling, social services, shelters and other agencies for assistance
- Accompany victims to court
- Maintain statistical data
- Performs related duties as required
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Social Services, Social Work, Sociology, Behavioral Science or a closely related field, and two (2) years victim advocacy work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system; knowledge of family violence laws
- Skill to communicate effectively with hostile, abusive and irrational individuals; skill in managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to handle confidential information with discretion; ability to adjust to rapidly fluctuating situations; ability to operate personal computer; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, outside agencies, crime victims and the general public
- Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation from the Bexar Criminal District Attorney's Office
- Must secure and maintain a favorable pre-employment physical
- May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
- Constantly working in indoor conditions
- Occasionally moves items weighing up to 10-15 pounds
- Occasionally moves about the office
- Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
- Positions self to perform essential functions
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position
Under direction, notifies victims of cases filed; provides victims of crime with information regarding the criminal justice system and case status; provides assistance with Victim Impact Statements and Crime Victims Compensation; and performs related duties as required
