      Job Description:
      Assists with the implementation and enforcement of the Nebraska Noxious Weed Control Act and the Nebraska Seed Law in the northeast counties of the state by conducting routine inspections and county evaluations to determine compliance with state laws. Counties that you will service include: Antelope, Blaine, Boone, Boyd, Brown, Burt, Cedar, Cherry, Colfax, Cuming, Custer, Dakota, Dixon, Dodge, Garfield, Greeley, Holt, Keya Paha, Knox, Loup, Madison, Pierce, Platte, Rock, Stanton, Thurston, Valley, Washington, Wayne, Wheeler.

      This position will be understaffed at the Ag Inspection Specialist I classification, with the expectation of becoming an Ag Inspection Specialist II. Level I Inspection Specialists must complete required additional training and certifications within the first year of employment. Should these requirements not be met, work status and requirements will be assessed at that time.

      Starting Pay for Ag Inspection Specialist I is $17.327 per hour.

      Ag Inspection Specialist II starting pay is $20.024 per hour.

      Job duties
      • Conduct survey and detection activities for noxious weeds.
      • Conduct seed inspections, complaint inspections, and follow-up.
      • Conduct noxious weed inspections, complaint inspections and follow-up.
      • Evaluate county weed control programs and review annual reports.
      • Conduct education and outreach activities with county weed superintendents, agricultural industries, the general public, and special interest groups; and
      • Attend local county board meetings.


      Requirements / Qualifications

      Minimum Qualifications:

      Agriculture Inspection Specialist I: Two years' experience working in a relevant discipline.

      Agriculture Inspection Specialist II:Post high school coursework/training in agriculture, plant/animal or natural sciences, or other program related field OR a vocation certificate in electrical, mechanical, engineering or other program related field. AND Two years' experience working in a relevant discipline.

      Preferred Qualifications: Experience in conducting regulatory inspections and working with the public.

      Other: This position requires travel, including some over night travel. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver's license or another form of reliable transportation. Regular and reliable attendance is required.

      Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
      • Able to use computer and smart phone devices.
      • Plant science, plant identification, or agronomy experience is preferred.
