      BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This is investigative and protective services work in the enforcement of inland fisheries and wildlife conservation laws, rules, regulations, and other laws within the jurisdiction of the Maine Warden Service, by piloting fixed wing aircraft and performing routine Game Warden duties when available. Responsibilities include flying a variety of missions including reconnaissance, surveillance, search and rescue, aerial research, fish stocking, personnel transport, and assistance to other law enforcement agencies. An employee in this classification may perform routine Game Warden tasks, when available. Work is performed under limited supervision, exercising a high degree of discretion in determining the conditions under which the aircraft is operated.

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate or equivalent; twenty-one (21) years of age or older, or at least 20 years of age and have completed an Associates Degree or 60 credit hours of post-secondary education; no criminal or extensive motor vehicle record; and be willing to locate anywhere within the State of Maine – AND - a valid FAA Commercial Pilot’s License without restrictions.

      LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class).

      A valid FAA Commercial Pilot's License for Single Engine Land and Single Engine Sea without restrictions, a Second Class FAA medical certificate, instrument rating, and have or be able to obtain a valid State of Maine Class C motor vehicle operator’s license.

      Completion of all Maine Game Warden associated requirements and training must be met before permanent status may be obtained.

      Preference will be given to applicants who have experience operating fixed wing aircraft under “bush type” conditions including flying over wilderness and mountainous terrain under adverse weather conditions and applicants with float plane experience, and/or have any combination of experience in law enforcement, the military, or a natural resources related field totaling four (4) years.

      b) This position requires an employee to perform his/her duties under limited supervision. Please describe, in detail, your ability to carry out direction and what steps you would take when the assigned task/s could not be complete (e.g. you are the only pilot, out of a staff of three pilots, that is working and on the evening before an important flight you discover a mechanical defect with your assigned aircraft)

      c) This position requires a strong understanding of fish and wildlife activities, as well as boating and other outdoor recreation. Please describe in detail your experience with these activities.
