      Job Summary

      Participates in the conduct of research and studies to determine the impacts of environmental and OSH legislated changes to NAV CANADA. Evaluates the relevance of industry trends, practices and standards. Contributes in the development, implementation, interpretation, guidance and monitoring of related policies, procedures, guidelines and training.

      Job Description

      Key Accountabilities:

      Ensure NAV CANADA is compliant with Environmental and Occupational Safety and Health (EOSH) regulations by analyzing and interpreting relevant legislation and best management practices.

      Promote a positive EOSH culture within NAV CANADA by creating and reviewing EOSH subject matter based on assigned task analysis and presenting finished content appropriate to target audience(s).

      Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders by preparing necessary documents, or reports outlining EOSH requirements to legislation and policy for proposed environmental remediations, project evaluations, and/or OSH assessments.

      Conduct internal EOSH audits at NAV CANADA sites and facilities to ensure compliance with relevant legal requirements and conformance to the company's EOSH Management Systems.

      Successfully communicate with stakeholders by providing expert advice in a timely manner aiding in the decision-making process and enhancing overall environmental and OSH compliance.

      Job Requirements

      Education:

      • Graduation with a degree from a recognized university with specialization in: environmental sciences, environmental engineering or other science or engineering degree and/or relevant experience in the environmental and OSH fields.

      Experience:

      • Background in environmental and or OSH sciences, theories, and practices.
      • Technical knowledge and expertise in interpretation of federal and provincial/territorial environmental and OSH acts and regulations, standards, and codes of practice and guidelines.

      Knowledge:

      • Knowledge of ISO14000, ISO 9000 and ISO 18000 series of standards.
      • Knowledge of Phase 1 and Phase 2 assessment standards and techniques.
      • Technical knowledge of investigation and auditing techniques.
      • Knowledge of soil and water remediation methods and sampling techniques/methodology.
      • Knowledge of hazardous products in the workplace, WHMIS regulations and Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations.
      • Knowledge and demonstrated skills in project/program management and methodologies.
      • Knowledge of education and training methods.
      • All knowledge is supplemented with numerous years of experience working with NAV CANADA administrative and management policies and practices and human and financial management practices.

      Abilities:

      • Effective interpersonal skills (written and oral) in establishing and maintaining appropriate interpersonal relationship in dealings with team members, colleagues, management, clients and vendors.
      • Possess excellent analytical skills to assess, test, troubleshoot, determine root cause, and recommend new courses of actions/process improvement.
      • Establish and maintain open communication between business groups and Information Management

      • This position is based at the Ottawa ACC but may be eligible for a flexible work arrangement.
