      Major Responsibilities:

      • Responsible for the daily care of animals including feeding, watering, grooming, cleaning, etc.
      • Maintains good sanitary living conditions for animals
      • Observes and reports illness or injury. Treats minor injuries and/or assists veterinarian in administering health care. This includes giving subcutaneous and intramuscular injections and oral medication
      • Transfers animals from one enclosure/shelter to another as necessary. Travels to various shelter areas to deliver and pick up animals
      • May direct labourer(s)
      • Responds to inquiries from public
      • May maintain grounds and equipment and make minor repairs when necessary
      • Performs demonstrations about the animals and animal related activities to park visitors
      • Facilitates classes in conjunction with program staff for paid participants
      • Required to be on stand-by during certain times of the year to ensure animals are monitored and cared for during birthing season or during animal illness

      Key Qualifications:

      Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

      1. Considerable experience in large and small animal care
      2. Considerable experience in handling a variety of large and small animals
      3. Experience in maintaining sanitary living conditions for animals
      4. Must posses and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class ‘G’ Drivers License and must qualify for the City’s equipment operating permits and requirements
