      We have a rare and exciting opportunity for a motivated individual who wants to become an Occupational Therapist. The successful applicant will be enthusiastic about the profession and will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the role of an OT through experience.

      The apprenticeship is a 3 year degree level program for an Occupational Therapy (Degree Apprenticeship) BSc (Hons) during which you will learn all the skills needed to become a registered Occupational Therapist.

      We will provide a work placed mentor to provide guidance, support and knowledge in the Occupational Therapy profession.

      You will be part of the Community Therapy team learning alongside them in the workplace. The academic and placement component is supported by The University of Huddersfield. The successful applicant would be offered the post subject to being accepted onto the University of Huddersfield Occupational Therapy Apprentice degree program.

      Main duties of the job

      Applications will only be considered from people who have recent experience of working as a therapy assistant within an NHS or Local Authority Occupational Therapy service.

      A clean British driving licence is essential as is access to a car with business class insurance (reasonable adjustments will be made as needed).

      The jobholder will be employed in a three-year degree apprenticeship role within the Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (BTHFT).

      Academic study will make up 20% at Huddersfield University and 20% on placements. The remaining 60% will be spent in the workplace in Community Therapy. During the apprenticeship the post holder will perform all of the elements in this job description as a learner and under the direct and/or indirect supervision of a registered practitioner.

      Salary adjustment for successful candidates

      • New to the NHS: If you are joining the NHS for the first time, you will be paid at the Apprentice Rate, which is currently £7.55 per hour (from April 2025) for the first year of your apprenticeship. After the first year, you will be paid the age-related National Minimum Wage for the remainder of your fixed-term contract.
      • Existing NHS Employees: If you already have NHS experience, your pay will be determined in accordance with Annex 21 of the Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions. This means you will receive a percentage of the relevant pay band for the role, reflective of your current qualifications and experience.
