- That you hold appropriate highways maintenance and inspection qualifications and experience for the role.
- A thorough knowledge of highway maintenance materials, methods and standards.
- A sound understanding and experience of contract management.
- Experience in stakeholder management, and the good communication skills necessary for this.
- Experience in using works management systems to raise orders using schedules of rates (or comparable experience in other sectors).

About the Role:
Lambeth’s Highways team is looking for a new Area Engineer to join our dedicated and knowledgeable Reactive Maintenance team. The successful applicant will be responsible for a specified geographical area of the borough and will carry out cyclic inspections of the classified road network in that area, but also ad hoc visits and inspections in response to member and customer enquiries. They will need to have the highways technical knowledge and experience necessary to be able to recognise defects of different types and magnitudes and commission repairs to those defects to an appropriate technical specification, as well as assessing the quality of completed repair works.
Other key responsibilities of the post include on call rota duties as part of the team’s emergency response service and the Winter Maintenance service, and assessment and approval of crossover applications and highways licences. The successful applicant will be a team player, but also someone with the initiative and confidence to make independent technical decisions and to communicate these clearly and effectively to a range of stakeholders.
