Job Description

- Oversee and direct the activities of the General Accounting Department.
- Oversee and direct the activities of the Planning, Operations, and Construction Finance Department.
- Act as the internal and external audit point-person and manage various University audits and examinations, including the preparation and/or review of various complex and detailed schedules.
- Timely and accurately prepare the University's internal interim and external annual consolidated financial statements and related disclosures.
- Timely and accurately prepare the financial reports for the University's subsidiaries and international programs.
- Research, analyze, and document new accounting standards impacting the University, as well as accurate treatment of material financial transactions under GAAP.
- Ensure accounting data within the general ledger is complete, appropriate, and accurate based on GAAP.
- Maintain, improve, and confirm the accuracy of the general ledger system. This includes ensuring that the general ledger accounts are reconciled timely.
- Cultivate a positive learning environment and one that responds efficiently and effectively to inquiries, providing exceptional service to the campus community.
- Consistently seek, suggest, and document process re-design and improvements.
- Research and become knowledgeable about financial reporting requirements for the University's current and prospective international campuses.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Uphold the University mission through work performed.
Under the direction of the University Controller, lead and mentor the General Accounting Department and the Planning, Operations, and Construction Finance Department to provide internal and external users of the University with financial information tools that can assist in strategic and tactical decision-making.

Skills and Qualifications
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (or comparable) and CPA license (active or inactive). Minimum of five years of public accounting or industry experience in higher education or nonprofit organizations. High comprehensive knowledge of GAAP and FASB. Strong leadership and mentoring skills. Proactive self-starter with the ability to multitask and quickly understand financial and operations systems. Highly organized with the ability to work in an accurate and timely manner. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast paced environment. Must display a genuine and heartfelt interest in the mission of the University and be committed to student success.
Preferred: Active CPA, MBA, and experience with PeopleSoft.

This is a Regular, Exempt, 40 hour per week position that may be eligible for remote or hybrid work in accordance with the University Policy Manual.
Expected Pay Range: $150,000 - $175,000 per year
The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. In addition to base pay, Pepperdine offers a robust and highly competitive benefits package.
