      Job Summary:

      Under minimal supervision as a member of a four-person college counseling office, provides the framework for students to transition from Upper School to the post-secondary years. Works with students and families in support of the college application process, scholarship and summer opportunities, and financial aid, as well as assists students and families with testing, applications, and the final decision-making process.

      Specific Responsibilities:

      • Confers individually with junior and senior students about college opportunities, high school curriculum choices, test prep options, and college visitations
      • Assists the Director of College Counseling with scheduling, planning, and presenting student/parent information nights and student/alumni gatherings
      • Acts as a liaison for parents and students with college admission and financial aid offices
      • Writes the school letter of recommendation to colleges for seniors on their caseload
      • Assists and helps coordinate college related PSAT, Pre-ACT, SAT, ACT and AP standardized test administration
      • Remains apprised of the changing college landscape by meeting with college representatives on campus, visiting colleges and universities, and attending conferences when possible.
      • Assists the Director of College Counseling and Student Services with data collection and appropriate dissemination
      • Establishes and cultivates community relations by maintaining open dialogue with all the school’s constituencies
      • Actively participates in the full life of the school
      • Engages in their own professional development; is a life-long learner who enhances their skills, using state-of-the-art technologies to maintain high standards of performance to produce work products efficiently and effectively
      • Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school’s documents
      • Since safety and security are everyone’s responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities
      • Helps plan and implement a four-year college counseling program to students and families
      • Performs other duties as assigned

      Qualifications


      Required Education & Experience:

      • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university required
      • Master’s degree preferred
      • 4+ years’ experience working as either a college counselor or college admissions counselor preferred

      Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
      • Strong attention to detail
      • Ability to work and communicate well with all levels of faculty and staff
      • Ability to work and communicate well with students and their parents
      • Ability to maintain confidential information
      • Flexibility, maturity, and a sense of humor
      • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
      • Proficient at working in a Microsoft Windows environment using Office, including Outlook; ability to master common automated systems for record keeping, and confidently learn new technology; Experience with school-focused technology is a plus
      • Experience using college counseling and/or college admissions CRM tools such as Naviance, Scoir, MaiaLearning, and Slate.
      • Ability to talk on the phone
      • Ability to sit and keyboard up to 8 hours per day
      • Ability to travel and tour colleges

      Compensation & Benefits:

      Salary is $67k to $80k based on education and years of experience. This is an academic year position plus two weeks over the summer.
