- Managing a team responsible for accounts payable and treasury management, broker commissions, the monthly accounting close, and financial reporting
- Supporting the group and individual billing teams as well as tax
- Preparing and consolidating monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements including NAIC statutory and RBC filings as well as annual Form filings updates and reviews
- Establishing and maintaining internal controls to ensure compliance with accounting and state regulations
- Managing all aspects of the general ledger
- Providing monthly, quarterly and year-end analyses while providing insights to management
- Coordinating or assisting with the budget process
- Researching accounting issues for compliance with both GAAP and US STAT
- Analyzing and reporting cost variances
- Serving as primary contact with external auditors and tax professionals
- Supports ad-hoc financial requests and accounting process design flows
- Accounts payable and expense review & approval
- Mentoring and development
- Bachelor s degree in accounting or business, or equivalent business experience and 10+ years of progressively responsible insurance experience and managing others. Proficient user of Microsoft Excel
- 7+ years of experience managing others
- Thorough knowledge of GAAP and STAT accounting
- A team player with a sense of accountability and responsibility
- Ability to organize, prioritize, delegate and escalate when required
- Well-developed analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Certifications such as a CPA, CGMA or CMA
- Incumbent must be able to communicate effectively.
- Ability to operate personal computer and related technologies.
- Incumbent works primarily in a remote environment or a private or shared office environment.
The role of Assistant Finance Controller reports to the Company's Controller and should possess strong accounting, analytical, communication and organizational skills. This position requires at least 10 years of experience in accounting or finance, and public accounting experience is highly valued. This position requires a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, and other certifications such as a CPA, CGMA or CMA are preferred. The Company is a dental insurance carrier, and experience in insurance accounting and reporting is highly desired. This role will also frequently interact with other parts of the organization including underwriting, sales, and operations. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working independently or at times with little guidance. The ideal candidate should be comfortable synthesizing complex data and information and communicating to management in a summarized manner
