      The Role

      The Assistant General Counsel will lead a team in the Employment Counseling & Litigation Section and serve as senior legal advisor to enterprise senior management with respect to employment-related legal issues.

      Specifically, this leader will:

      • Lead and manage a team of legal professionals who are responsible for providing substantive legal advice on a broad spectrum of employment-related matters, managing employment-related claims and outside counsel relationships.
      • Collaboratively work with leaders across the Division to strategize about the most efficient and effective ways the Section can support enterprise employment law needs.
      • Identify and analyze complex legal issues, developing conclusions and making recommendations for issue resolution and appropriate escalation.
      • Follow and ensure consistent application of Legal Department policies and procedures to manage Wells Fargo's legal matters, outside counsel and legal expenses.
      • Assist in driving the Legal Department to provide expert, creative, timely and consistent support for the legal needs of all Company businesses and support functions and collaborate with other Legal Department leaders in doing so.

      The Candidate

      The successful candidate for this role will demonstrate the leadership skill necessary to collaboratively build and lead a high-performing team of legal professionals to drive business results through leadership effectiveness and team member engagement; contributing to broad enterprise strategy with a One Wells Fargo lens; and furthering the company’s strong risk management culture by living the Expectations of Wells Fargo. This collaborative leader must be capable of initiating action and managing change. The position requires a leader with strong relationship management, influencing, vision and execution skills. A key differentiator will be the ability to understand and operate successfully in a complex, heavily matrixed corporate environment. The role requires a sense of urgency, passion for excellence and results, and personal accountability for achievement and outcomes.

      Required Qualifications, US:

      • 8+ years of Legal experience, or equivalent experience demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
      • 4+ years of management experience
      • Active State Bar membership or the equivalent in a country outside the United States


      Desired Qualifications:

      • Extensive subject matter expertise in employment law
      • Significant experience representing large, matrixed organizations providing general legal advice and support in connection with risk and regulatory issues.
      • Strong executive presence and the ability to earn the trust and confidence of senior leaders.
      • Ability to adapt quickly to a changing environment, identifying risks, strategizing about risk mitigation, and appropriately escalate significant issues.
      • Experience with and having a command of litigation processes, risk and strategy considerations.
      • Monitor litigation trends, legal developments and legislative changes impacting employment law
      • Supervise and oversee the handling and monitoring of systemic issues that pose legal, regulatory and reputational risk to the bank.
      • Experience leading and managing a team of managers, attorneys, EEO coordinators and paralegals with staff representation across multiple geographic locations.
      • Collaborate and partner with colleagues to provide expert, risk-focused, and timely support to clients.
      • Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to a changing environment while building relationships and negotiating for positive business outcomes while effectively managing legal risk.


      Pay Range

      $249,500.00 - $518,300.00
