      MISSION:
      It is the mission of the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) to impact and transform young lives, strengthen families, and support safer communities through targeted prevention and rehabilitation.

      JOB PURPOSE:

      Under limited supervision, assists the Principal with all administrative and instructional activities and programs of the Birchwood School and any school affiliated satellite programs in accordance with State Department of Education regulations and DJJ Policies and Procedures.

      JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

      Assists Principal in providing vision and instructional leadership for the school and local school-affiliated satellite programs to foster success for all
      students and educational staff. This includes direct evaluation and supervision of staff members assigned to the assistant principal.


      Assists in the effective management and administration of the Juvenile Detention Center, the Midlands and the CATE program; prepares and reviews reports and correspondence.

      Assists with standardized testing oversight; assists with scheduling oversight in cooperation with Guidance; assists in budget management, inventory, auditing, maintaining, and updating.

      Develops and supports a positive school climate for staff and juveniles; plans activities and functions to enhance school mandates and initiatives.

      Models, encourages and supports integrity, fairness, and ethical behavior among staff and students.

      Provides support to principals and students within the Juvenile Detention Center to increase student instructional, scheduling and academic achievement.

      Demonstrates and encourages effective interpersonal skills; collaborates with other school administrators, the District Leadership Team, and the SC
      Department of Education & other Agency divisions.


      Ensures effective and relevant staff development opportunities by planning and implementing personal and professional growth activities for staff
      in cooperation with school administrators and the District Leadership Team.


      Performs other duties as assigned by the principal/administration.

      STATE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

      Must hold a valid secondary administration certificate acquired through acquisition of a degree from an accredited college/university, must hold a current/valid SC Department of Education certificate in Secondary School Administration.

      ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:


      Knowledge of SC Department of Education regulations and DJJ policies and procedures pertaining to school administration and operations.

      Skill in the use of modern educational equipment and technologies.

      Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and juveniles.

      Ability to collaborate with other school administrators and district office staff on a regular basis.

      Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

      Limited overnight travel.

      This position performs job duties relating to the custody, control, transportation, or recapture of youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice, and the employee may have direct and indirect contact with youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Training applicable to these duties will be provided.

      PREFERRED AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:


      Familiarity/experience with blended learning model is preferred. Dual/multiple certifications are preferred.
