Summary of Job Duties:

The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) welcomes applications from candidates who desire to be part of a dynamic and supportive team. We seek candidates immediately for full-.time faculty positions for contract work at the Arkansas State Hospital, a 222-bed free-standing psychiatric hospital located near UAMS. The Arkansas State Hospital positions are primarily clinical with a focus on the treatment of persons with forensic issues. Opportunities for research and teaching/mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows are available.

UAMS is an academic health science campus with Colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Public Health, Health Professions, and Graduate School. The UAMS main campus is in Little Rock and has a regional campus in Fayetteville, home of the University of Arkansas. Clinical excellence, scientific translation, and practical applicability are found in abundance at UAMS. Faculty enjoy close collaboration among colleagues from seven research institutes, eight regional clinical centers across the state, the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System, Arkansas State Hospital, and Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
PRI is a 120,000 square foot stand-alone facility on the UAMS campus that integrates psychiatric education, inpatient and outpatient clinical care, and research in a single facility. Along with the administrative offices for faculty, staff, and trainees, the PRI houses and operates a 10-bed Child Diagnostic Unit, a 20-bed general inpatient unit, and a 10-bed Women’s Unit. PRI includes well-funded research programs in mental health services, implementation science, behavioral and pharmacological interventions, translational research, and a Brain Imaging Research Center.

Qualifications:

• M.D. or equivalent degree, be ABPN-certified or eligible for certification in Psychiatry with the expectation of becoming certified as per the UAMS bylaws. Eligibility for and subsequent success in obtaining an unrestricted Arkansas medical license, malpractice insurance, and credentialing by central Arkansas teaching hospitals are required. Successful candidates will be excellent clinicians as well as outstanding teachers or researchers; able to work well collaboratively; and enjoy being part of a team that is accomplishing more than any individual can accomplish.

• Teaching and mentorship of medical students, residents and fellows as needs are identified.
• Working collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Providing excellent clinical care including evidence-based psychiatric diagnostic assessment and treatment.
• Providing court reports and testimony for forensic and civil cases.
• Completing medical records according to professional standards and in a timely manner using the Arkansas State Hospital EMR system.
• Additional service to the Arkansas State Hospital, College of Medicine, University and profession are expected as needs are identified.
