      Otago is famous for its residential college communities supporting thousands of mostly first-year students as they begin their tertiary journey. We are seeking one Assistant Warden for a live-in position at University College.

      The role / Te mahi

      Tautiaki-Kaiāwhina (Assistant Wardens) are key members of the College pastoral and welfare team. With a focus on wellbeing / oraka, they provide culturally appropriate opportunities for residents to experience cultural, sporting, academic and personal development in a positive college environment.

      Skills and experience / Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

      We are looking for an enthusiastic, resilient and capable person who can work with a range of situations, some of which may be difficult and complex. Candidates should have a passion for working with young adults of tertiary age.

      Our ideal candidate will have:
      • Experience working with young adults in a leadership capacity.
      • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in emergency or crisis situations.
      • Skills and experience in administration and organisation of varied student-focussed events and activities.
      • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
      • Ability to achieve a range of tasks under competing demands, within agreed timeframes.
      • Experience and skill in delivering pastoral care and support to tertiary-age students would be a distinct advantage.

      This exciting role will suit people from varied backgrounds who are passionate about working with young adults. Candidates with knowledge and appreciation of cultural issues and knowledge of Tikanga Māori and / or knowledge in providing positive opportunities for Tauira Māori, will be especially welcome.

      This is a permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) position, located in Dunedin. The start date for this role is January 2025.

      The position is live-in and requires a high level of commitment, including being rostered on-call. Accommodation (3-bedroom flat with car park) is provided within the College and the total remuneration package for this position includes full compensation for all accommodation costs.

      The salary range for this role is $65,281 to $69,648 per annum. Top of the range is $74,947.
