- Direct and manage a high volume of projects and timelines of varying complexity and scope, ensuring the effective delivery of multimedia marketing products to advertise and promote the Division of Student Affairs and associated departments, initiatives, and programs.
- Proactively identify creative opportunities, developing and pitching concepts that support brand messaging and business objectives.
- Hire and manage the design team, providing guidance, evaluation, mentorship, and support. Oversees employee recruitment, hiring, and performance management, including appraisals, goal setting, disciplinary actions, and professional development.
- Take responsibility for the creative vision and output standard across team members, ensuring all creative output/visuals are consistent with the overall brand.
- Lead the design of high-visibility products of university-wide importance, developing promotional materials that support university-level and multi-divisional initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree (graphic design, visual design, visual communications, or a related field)
- 3-5 years of experience working in a design-related position. At least one year of directing the creative work of other professional, student, or intern designers.
- Strong graphic design and editing skills with proficiency in graphic design software and applications. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite tools such as Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
- A proven record of creative judgment and successful client interactions
- Strong oral, written, and visual communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to prepare creative content directed at specific audiences, as well as professional communications, reports, and presentations
- Ability to work in leadership, consultative, and collaborative roles with a variety of individuals (staff, faculty, and students), as well as departments and committees across disciplines
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, as well as the ability to work well in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented, and goal-driven environment.
- A creative mindset and passion for innovation
- Ability to manage, maintain, and protect confidential and private information appropriately
- Ability to establish, build, and maintain effective working relationships based on respect, empathy, and honesty with diverse groups and individuals
- Knowledge of Deaf culture or American Sign Language or willingness to learn.
- Advanced degree in a related field
- Photography capturing and editing skills and experience
- Videography/animation experience
- Experience in website design and website management, including basic knowledge of the Drupal platform or HTML.
Job Summary
As the Associate Director for Creative, you will lead the development and execution of a high volume of multimedia products that promote the vibrant student experience at RIT. Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications for Student Affairs, you will join a team that inspires, challenges, and supports one another.
Your leadership skills and technical expertise will enable you to oversee a talented team of professional and student staff designers, ensuring high-quality on-brand project execution from concept to delivery. Your role will include setting the creative direction, managing project timelines, and ensuring all deliverables exceed expectations. You'll be instrumental in fostering an environment that values collaboration and continuous learning, empowering your team to achieve their full potential.
You will collaborate with a wide array of departments, bringing innovative ideas to life through the development of print and digital materials. As a key player in our marketing efforts, your work will directly contribute to engaging the community and enhancing the visibility and reputation of the RIT student experience.
