      Associate Director of Teaching and Learning

      Harvard-Westlake School is seeking candidates for the newly created position of Associate Director of Teaching and Learning. This is a full-time position which begins on July 1, 2024.

      We are looking for an experienced educator who has expertise in educational technology, pedagogy and curriculum development, professional development, and a passion for helping teachers and independent schools thrive. The Associate Director of Teaching and Learning will report directly to the Director of Teaching and Learning and will work closely with the Middle and Upper School Division Heads, the Director of Institutional Research, and the chairs of the Upper and Middle School Faculty Academic Committees.

      Areas of focus will include, but are not limited to:

      • Collaborate with the Director of Teaching and Learning to provide leadership in the field of Generative Artificial Intelligence, working with teachers to integrate, when appropriate, GenAI applications into the curriculum to enhance student learning.
      • Plan and lead training sessions for faculty on the use of current and future educational technologies and other topics related to teaching and learning.
      • Collaborate with the IT department to explore and adopt innovative technology solutions that support student learning.
      • Provide support to faculty in the use of the Learning Management System, grade book software, and other educational technologies that support student learning.
      • Collaborate with STEM faculty to evaluate and identify growth opportunities in STEM programming.
      • Conduct an assessment of the 1:1 laptop program to ensure its ongoing success and identify areas for further improvement.
      • Regularly update the middle and upper school's online library of resources and training materials for teachers.
      • Oversee relationships with external vendors and manage the budget for educational technology software.
      • Collaborate with the middle and upper school library programs to enhance digital, media, and information literacy skills in students.
      • Collaborate with the Director of Teaching and Learning to manage faculty professional growth and development, including facilitating teacher observations (including video observations) and supporting professional goal setting.
      • Participate in the planning of professional development days.

      The ideal candidate will have:

      • A recognition that diversity, equity, and inclusion work is inextricably linked to academic excellence and a demonstrated commitment in this area.
      • Robust experience in teaching and learning both in a classroom and more broadly in a school community.
      • A background and deep understanding of how technology impacts the teaching and learning experiences of the community.
      • Experience with 1:1 laptop programs.
      • A history of professional learning in areas of curriculum, pedagogical innovation, and program development within schools.
      • A history of active membership or engagement with professional educational technology associations such as ATLIS or ISTE.
      • Demonstrated success in building and managing systems to help faculty grow professionally in their ability to enhance student learning.
      • A history of collaborative and team-oriented problem-solving.
      • Strength in communicating ideas clearly and effectively to a faculty audience.
      • Excellent organizational and program-building skills.

      Compensation: Anticipated base compensation for this role is between $120,000 - $150,000, depending on experience.
