      As an Associate Director-Underwriting , you will be responsible for supporting the origination team in their business development efforts by assisting in structuring financing proposals, underwriting and completing loan applications, conducting due diligence, completing loan documentation and all other matters required to successfully close and fund a new financing. You will be part of a small origination team of business developers and underwriters led by a team leader, who will provide advice, guidance and mentorship.

      You will be drawing on your extensive technical skills and highly tuned political savvy, you may be required to represent, engage and negotiate on behalf of the organization with respect to financing agreements, and navigating the legal and documentation process towards the closing of these financing agreements. You will ensure consistency and balance between sales objectives, sound and prudent risk management, portfolio profitability and client and partner satisfaction. You will also play a leading and influential role with various stakeholders and provide expert advice to members of the national team, as needed.

      The Real Estate Financing Group – Central & Western Canada is a unit of the national real estate financing team of Desjardins Group with origination teams operating from its offices in Toronto and Vancouver covering major urban markets west of Quebec. The unit deploys capital of different components of the Desjardins Group, including the life insurance arm (Desjardins Financial Security Life Assurance Company) and the Fédération des caisses Desjardins du Québec. We provide our national clients with access to development, construction and term financing for all major real estate asset classes, including residential multi-family rental, residential market condominium, industrial, retail and office.

      General Information on the Position

      Main responsibilities

      • Identify and analyze client needs, develop and deliver customized financing solutions. Assist in negotiating applicable conditions with clients, prepare the credit application, co-ordinate with legal counsel on the preparation of loan documentation, negotiate loan documents with clients and conduct all due diligence required for closing and funding of the financing agreement

      • Mentor/coach analysts in the portfolio management team

      • Ensure client satisfaction and act to resolve client dissatisfaction with services provided by or conflict with any Desjardins component

      • Recommend strategies and solutions for achieving objectives of the unit such as increased business volume, sound risk management, portfolio profitability and stronger business relationships

      • Use intelligence to identify opportunities for business development that will increase the competitiveness of the products and services offered

      • Execute various promotional activities as part of the unit’s business operations. Participate in targeted public relations activities and participate actively in the business community

      • Be attentive to client needs to ensure their full satisfaction, seize business opportunities and, as needed, refer them to the right team within the Group to meet their needs

      • Adhere to all policies, practices and standards in effect, as well as the various laws governing the distribution of financial products and services. Provide sound and prudent risk management for all portfolios under their responsibility

      • Monitor the market environment and the competition

      • Any other tasks assigned by the team leader or the unit manager.

      Qualifications

      • Bachelor's degree in a related field

      • A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience

      • Knowledge of financing and credit management practices related to business loans
