      The Role

      Reporting to the VP, Product Development, the successful applicant will be a key contributor on the team with core responsibilities related to industry and market intelligence. The Product Development Team is part of Mackenzie’s broader Product Development Team, and the Product Division.

      Key responsibilities:

      • Manage and maintain the Mackenzie Product Research Database and related databases and support the maintenance of the Mackenzie Pricing Database.
      • Develop, maintain, and enhance reports and dashboards to communicate insights on industry trends such as market share, flows by competitor, fund, and category primarily within the Canadian market.
      • Regularly communicate competitive actions and external research reports to a wide internal audience.
      • Support and occasionally deliver presentations and communications of product research and findings to internal teams.
      • Identify opportunities to enhance existing research reporting and databases.
      • Maintain and enhance comprehensive competitive information packages on market penetration, product capabilities, trends, and developments of competitors.
      • Support the production of key industry decision-making reports and analytics for distribution to internal Mackenzie teams.
      • Analyze the investment industry to identify trends and understand how these findings impact Mackenzie.
      • Perform market, industry and product research and analysis to identify and assess strategic and tactical actions and implications for Mackenzie.

      The following qualifications will assist the successful candidate:

      Analytical Skills

      • Ability to apply analytical methods to facts and hypotheses to provide information in support of decision making.
      • Experienced in using different analytical tools to complete the required financial analysis.
      • Apply sound judgment in constructing analysis and in formulating recommendations.
      • Resourceful and creative in solving new/non-recurring problems through research and well supported analysis and business acumen.
      • Strong interest in business unit analysis and review including financial analysis modeling.

      Presentation and Communication Skills

      • Ability to create PowerPoint presentations with clear messaging, supported by sound analysis
      • Professional manner in dealing with both internal and external clients.
      • Articulate in communicating with all levels of management.
      • Ability to write and present concisely and persuasively.

      Project Management Skills

      • Coordinate resources from across the company in large-scale projects.
      • Timeline driven and consistently meeting deadlines.
      • Comfortable with handling multiple concurring problems and priorities.

      Additional skills and qualifications

      • Seen as a source of information and influence in industry and competitive research information, having an in-depth understanding of the industry and the global/domestic competitive landscape for retail, strategic alliance, and institutional business lines.
      • Seen as a partner and collaborator, effectively communicating, and liaising with the broader Product Development Team, other members of the Product Division, and key stakeholders across the organization.
      • A university degree in a business or finance-related discipline.
      • 3+ years of increasing experience in research and analysis in a financial services environment (preferably in the investment/asset management industry) with experience in development of research methodology, competitive product and industry level research as well as experience in report-writing and in making presentations to senior management.
      • Advanced proficiency with Tableau and Microsoft Office applications, e.g. PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Visio, and Outlook.
      • Enrollment in the CFA program is an asset.
