Job Description

Using clinical expertise to make decisions about the cover available for complex claims involving underwriting and/or treatment factors at both an individual claim level and at the philosophy setting level.
Providing expert judgement to support the effective management of the supply chain (hospitals and healthcare practitioners) by the Procurement and Outsourcing team. This judgement will need to balance customer needs, cost effectiveness, clinical risk (for the customer and Aviva) and service experience.
Analysing claims spend to identify opportunities to enhance Aviva’s management of this spend and benefit tracking.
Providing clinical insight and expertise to support modernising and digitising customer journeys.
In conjunction with the clinical team, assessing future developments in healthcare, determining their potential impact on Health’s propositions (benefit value and premium cost) and their likely timescale to influence and develop the wider business approach to proposition design, customer experience and supply chain changes. These assessments are complex and balancing the needs of customers, Aviva and provider stakeholders have a degree of uncertainty. Using professional judgement to ensure the business navigates this successfully is vital to Aviva’s success and overall market viability.
Medical degree and registered with the General Medical Council or other allied healthcare professional qualification and registered with relevant regulatory body.
Collaborating with and influencing the Health Leadership Team especially Propositions, Distribution and Procurement and Outsourcing.
Experience of the health insurance market, and commissioning healthcare.
Ability to make all business decisions need to be made within Aviva’s risk appetite and clinical roles specifically need to support decisions about the clinical risk exposure of any changes.
An understanding of the UK (including private) and other national healthcare systems
- Salary Circa £90,000 National / £100,000 London (location, skills, experience, and qualifications)
- Bonus opportunity of 12% of annual salary (actual amount depends on your performance and Aviva’s)

Associate Medical Director
Salary: Circa £90,000 National / Circa £100,000 London
Locations: Eastleigh, Sheffield, and London
Due to growth, we have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Medical Director to join our team.
Senior member of the clinical directorate that is responsible for the clinical strategy and provision of clinical expertise to the business across all elements of the health proposition.
Responsible for supporting the clinically led approach to the health proposition working with colleagues in Propositions, Marketing, Procurement and
Outsourcing and Customer with a focus on ensuring that our clinical risk management framework protects our customers from harm and protects Aviva from reputational or financial damage.
A bit about the job:
Develop, maintain, and embed the processes and systems that ensure that clinical knowledge and expertise effectively supports the Aviva Health UK’s strategy. Develop and propose recommendations for enhancements for the business keeping the Aviva proposition compelling and competitive. Adopt and embed principles of value-based healthcare and commissioning into private health insurance proposition.
