Supervisor: Principal Employee Group: Act 93 - 12 month Effective Date: April 1, 2024 Position Summary: The Athletic Director provides administration, leadership, supervision and coordination of all athletic programs to provide experiences for student learning and development as an extension of the classroom experience for student athletes. Monitors the compliance of the athletic program with District policies as well as local, state and federal regulations which govern the academic eligibility and conduct on interscholastic intramural athletic programs. Prepares and administers the athletic budget, conducts staff development sessions for athletic personnel and resolves administrative problems. Promotes public relations and revenue generating activities for the District. Key Responsibilities & Essential Duties: Supervises athletic staff, including hiring, development, evaluation, and strategic retention initiatives. Oversees and directs work of regular volunteers. Manages the ongoing operation of the Athletic complex; in addition to generating income from tournaments, championship and other events. Coordinates submission of all required clearances for paid staff and regular volunteers in collaboration with Human Resources. Coordinates and utilizes software to support athletic scheduling, transportation, contracts, budgeting, purchasing, equipment maintenance and storage, etc. for the purpose of delivering athletic programs and services as required. Collaborates with appropriate district personnel for the building and maintenance of athletic fields, refurbishing school gymnasiums and other athletic facilities. Abides by, monitors and enforces compliance with federal, state and local school laws and regulations, mandated programs, district policies and administrative regulations including the requirements of any conference or league in which the District participates. Serves as liaison between the district and local and state athletic authorities and community for the purpose of addressing matters that impact district athletic programs and activities. Serves on and attends a variety of league, council, committee, club, and district meetings. Coordinates with local and school authorities to provide a safe environment for students to participate in athletic programs and learn. Proactively collaborate with central office teams (e.g., Business Office, HR, etc.) to ensure successful administration of athletic programs. Assists the school administration in monitoring and intervention in matters concerning student grades, attendance and truancy as related to student activities. Lead retention strategies to maintain student athletes at William Penn. Supports and trains coaches and other staff to ensure compliance with regulations, policies and procedures. Regularly reviews the District’s athletic programs and participation, evaluates requests for additional programs, evaluates the viability of existing programs and recommends changes or new programs consistent with District policy and resources. Compiles data from a wide variety of sources to analyze issues; ensure compliance with rules, regulations, policies, procedures and to prepare documents and correspondence. Fosters cooperative relationships and functions between the school and its community and effective communications between the athletic programs and staff, and administration. Maintains a relationship with the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA); builds and expands the District’s athletic infrastructure to support the PIAA membership, programming and competition. Provides leadership in the maintenance of the NCAA Eligibility center for student athletes. Assist athletes with creating accounts, submitting transcripts and requesting fee waivers on the NCAA Eligibility website. Knowledge of research and best practices related to the administration of athletic programs Knowledge of governmental regulations which govern the conduct of interscholastic activities. Ability to coordinate program implementation with other departments and with public and private agencies. Excellent planning, organizational and management skills. Ability to prioritize multiple projects and effectively handle competing demands and deadlines. Ability to foster effective relationships with District staff, schools and external partners. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to develop, plan and implement short and long-range goals, establish priorities and organize resources. Ability to multi-task without compromising integrity or fidelity. Visionary who can foster/generate excitement, buy-in and understanding with colleagues and employees outside of the team. Ability to acknowledge challenges, persevere and problem solve. Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. Seven years of full-time, paid, professional experience in athletics, five of which shall have been in an administrative or supervisory capacity and have included responsibility for planning and conducting professional development. Valid Pennsylvania driver's license. Preferred Qualifications: PA instructional certificate in grades 7-12. Master’s degree. Business Development experience. Certified Athletic Administrator or equivalent. Working Conditions & Physical Requirements: Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis. Indoor office environment is subject to frequent interruptions. Pushing, moving and lifting objects with a strength factor of light work. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of standard office equipment. Clarity of vision at varying distances. Verbal, auditory and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner. Sitting ,standing and walking for extended periods of time. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally to retrieve and store files and supplies. Lifting objects with a strength factor of light work. Occasional bending, reaching and stretching. Occasional kneeling, crouching and squatting. Occasional pulling, pushing.
