      The Opportunity

      We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated AVP of Global Enterprise Architecture to join Manulife’s Global Enterprise Architecture team. The role will push forward the Global cross-Enterprise architecture vision by creating guidance and mechanisms that enable the company to think firm-wide when considering capabilities development. You'll work closely with Business, Segments Architects, product, and technology partners to translate long-term objectives into designs that fuel firm-wide reuse and convergence.

      The Global Enterprise Architecture team is responsible for defining the process, building blocks and target-state cross-enterprise vision that helps avoid duplication and optimize architecture.       OVERIVEW

      The AVP of Global Enterprise Architecture plays a key role in articulating and structuring the enterprise in terms of its governance structure, capabilities, enablers and information. This person aligns strategic goals and objectives with decisions regarding products and services; partners and suppliers; organization; business capabilities; and key business and IT initiatives. The primary focus is the Enterprise business motivations, operations, frameworks and related networks that link these aspects of the enterprise together. The AVP of Global Enterprise Architect works to develop an integrated view of the enterprise using a repeatable approach, cohesive framework, and available industry standard techniques.

      ORGANZATION

      The AVP of Global Enterprise Architecture will report to the VP of Global Enterprise Architecture and work closely with IT counterparts to align technical solutions with business needs and objectives. The AVP may have supervisory responsibility, acting as coach and mentor to junior members of the Global Enterprise Architecture team. In addition, the AVP works through others at every level of the organization soliciting strategic imperatives from senior leaders and executives and supporting business unit managers as they leverage business architecture artifacts to create their business and transformation plans. Finally, the AVP will provide direct input into the governance cycle that supports the achievement of key goals, planning and execution of various business scenarios, and delivery of bottom-line business value.

      RESPONSIBILITIES

      • Develop an Enterprise architecture strategy based on a situational awareness of various business scenarios and motivations.

      • Lay foundations and grow Manulife’s Global Enterprise Architecture team and practice, including applying a structured business architecture approach and methodology for capturing the key views.

      • Capture the tactical and strategic enterprise goals that provide traceability through the organization and are mapped to metrics that provide ongoing governance leveraging deliverables such as:

      • Capability Mapping, Assessment: & Heatmapping: Describe the primary business functions of the enterprise and distinguish between customer-facing, supplier-related, business execution and business management functions. As well as analyze, identify and monitor overall maturity and performance of these functions as it relates to their current and target state development in alignment with impacting initiatives.

      • Value Stream Mapping: Define the set of strategic, core and support processes that transcend functional and organizational boundaries; identify and describe external entities such as customers, suppliers, and external systems that interact with the business; and describe which people, resources and controls are involved in the processes.

      • Information Mapping: Define the data shared across the enterprise and the relationships between those data.

      • Stakeholder & Organization Mapping: Capture the relationships among roles, capabilities and business units, the decomposition of those business units into subunits, and the internal or external management of those units.

      • Lead Senior Management through the development of a business architecture plan for the organization. Evaluate and present information that will facilitate effective and timely decision-making through written and oral communication materials that effectively summarize findings with recommendations of the enterprise.

      • Support the application portfolio management initiatives, including driving application rationalization, application portfolio roadmaps, program governance, data management, and total cost of ownership in alignment with global team

      • Manage complexity by balancing multiple stakeholders with conflicting needs and provide input on data architectural qualities such as manageability, scalability, security, and reusability

      • Influence product/vendor direction and integrate technology from an architectural perspective within the business environment, and fulfill an IT governance role, identifying risks and provide risk mitigation

      • Oversee and facilitate meeting key project milestones and overall project deliverables on time, within budget, and adhering to relevant standards

      SKILLS

      General

      • Strategic thinking – ability to understand contexts, identify patterns and trends, and analyze impact of different change factors.

      • Experience with application portfolio management

      • Desire and ability to understand diverse business domains and develop architectures that meet the current and anticipated business needs across a broad set of partners.

      Communication:

      • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to communicate appropriately at all levels of the organization; this includes written and verbal communications as well as visualizations.

      • Ability to act as liaison conveying information needs of the business to IT and data constraints to the business; applies equal conveyance regarding Enterprise and IT strategy, business processes and workflow automation, business initiatives and IT initiatives, and benefit realization and service delivery.

      • Experience managing and growing Enterprise Architecture teams and skillset in an Architecture and/or Global setting.

      • Able to work effectively at all levels of an organization with the ability to influence others to move toward consensus.

      • Strong situational analysis and decision-making abilities.

      Enterprise and Business Architecture Acumen:

      • A broad, enterprise-wide view of the business and varying degrees of appreciation for strategy, processes and capabilities, enabling technologies, and governance.

      • The ability to recognize structural issues within the organization, functional interdependencies and cross-silo redundancies.

      • The ability to apply Enterprise and business architecture principles for business solutions.

      • The ability to assimilate and correlate disconnected documentation and drawings, and articulate their collective relevance to the organization and to high-priority business issues

      • Experience using model-based representations and Enterprise business architecture blueprints, that can be adjusted as required to collect, aggregate or disaggregate complex and conflicting information about the business.

      • The ability to visualize and create Enterprise and business architecture artifacts and models that can be used in future analysis to extend and mature the business architecture.

      • Extensive experience planning and deploying both business and IT initiatives.

      • Experience modeling business processes using a variety of tools and techniques.

      EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS

      • A degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering with strong exposure to Technology, business management plus minimum of 10 years' experience in information technology (or minimum accumulated career experience of 10 years in progressing strategy roles in business and technology domains).

      • In-depth experience and knowledge of EA frameworks (Zachman, TOGAF) and Business Architecture Guild best practices.

      • Certifications from recognized professional Architectural bodies is preferred.

      Salary & Benefits

      The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

      Primary Location

      Toronto, Ontario

      Salary range is expected to be between

      $123,400.00 CAD - $229,300.00 CAD
