Job summary
We are looking to recruit an Independent Reporting Dissector in diagnostic cellular pathology reporting to work alongside our histopathology consultants. You must hold RCPath/IBMS Advanced Specialist Diploma (ASD) in Histopathology Reporting or be able to evidence you are nearing completion. You will participate in advanced cancer and other dissection and deliver independent histopathology reporting to meet service needs. We are particularly interested to hear from those specialising in Gynae, Upper GI and/or Skin. Learning contracts will be considered for this post.
The department houses a wide variety of sub-specialities including histopathology and specialist musculoskeletal pathology services. We are fully accredited to ISO15189, hold a HTA license and are an IBMS approved training laboratory for HCPC Registration and Specialist Training. Leadership is by both a Clinical Service Lead (medical) and a Head Biomedical Scientist (technical).

Main duties of the job
*Independently, at medical consultant level, use specialised technical skills and knowledge to undertake dissection and independent reporting of diagnostic samples.
*To ensure cases are reported with the appropriate management recommendations including the decision on the requirement of further tests/investigations.
*Provide expert opinion and advice to other healthcare professionals' patients and the public including the participation in MDTs.
*Work with colleagues to provide a comprehensive service to the Trust and ensure that the highest standards of care are achieved.
*Support the development of a culture of continuous improvement, developing and contributing to service developments and the formulation of business cases to support these.
*To manage compliance with good laboratory practice in accordance with all relevant regulatory and accreditation standards e.g. ISO 5189, Blood Safety Quality Regulations (BSQR) and Human Tissue Authority (HTA).
*Undertake and establish evidence of continuing professional development and proficiency in order to maintain mandatory HCPC registration which will be formally reviewed at Personal Review and Development meetings (PDR).To support the development of the advanced BMS workforce including junior medical staff and others in dissection/reporting across Cellular Pathology as required for the service.
*Participate in the formal appraisal of colleagues including junior medical staff in accordance with established processes as appropriate.
