      Job summary

      We are looking for dynamic and experienced clinical reviewers to join our BANK of clinical reviewers to deliver high-quality death in custody clinical reviews.

      You will be responsible for liaising with the Prison and Probation Ombudsman's Investigator to conduct timely independent clinical reviews that meet the PPO and NHS England Health and Justice Commissioner's quality standards.

      We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated, currently practising clinicians, with a proven track record as investigator and/or clinical reviewers in the custodial healthcare sector, NHS secure environments, or police detention.

      You will be a Registered Doctor on the General Medical Council or be a Registered Nurse with the NMC. You will;

      • Have current clinical or healthcare management responsibility and have up-to-date clinical practice and evidence of professional development.
      • Be on the relevant professional register (GMC/NMC) and have worked in a clinical or healthcare management role for a minimum of 5 years.
      • Have evidence of current and ongoing professional development.
      • Have a minimum of 5 years' experience in a clinical role.
      • Attend at least one bi-annual review meeting held at the local office in Wakefield or via Microsoft Teams.
      • Attend bespoke clinical review induction training.

      With excellent investigative and analytical skills and an attention to the sensitivity of the role, you will be able to build respect, develop effective working relationships and partnerships.

      Main duties of the job

      To carry out a clinical review relating to the death of a person in the custody (or released on temporary licence) of a prison, Young Offender Institution, Secure Children's Home, Immigration Removal Centre, Courts or Approved Premises.

      To undertake level 1, 2 and 3 investigations into the clinical circumstance surrounding the death, working closely and making early contact with Prison and Probation Ombudsman (PPO) Investigator.

      To produce accurate and timely reports following the NHS England guidance.

      To provide a comprehensive review of care including an evaluation of equivalence of care in secure environments with care in the community.

      To develop SMART (Specific, Measurable Attainable, Relevant & Timely) recommendations for improvements in care and service delivery where appropriate.

      To raise any issues of concern that requires immediate attention to Commissioners,

      via the Death in Custody Service Manager.

      To attend inquests when required by HM Coroner to give evidence from the investigation findings.

      To participate in continuous professional development opportunities to ensure quality of service.

Any nurse registered with the NMC OR Be in a healthcare management role incorporating regular involvement in the review and support of clinical practice.

      • Possess a working knowledge of HM Prison & Probation Service (HMPPS)
