- Knowledge of risk assessment and management procedures
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to build up a rapport with patients and the MDT
- Experience in providing counselling to clients/carers
- Relevant, demonstrable experience in specialty area
- Ability to impart complex information to patients, relatives and carers, with different levels of understanding.
- Ability to undertake and promote evidence based practice
- Ability to lead, co-ordinate and motivate.
- Ability to work autonomously or as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to chair and facilitate meetings. ? Computer literacy. ? Basic Counselling skills. ? Experience of delivering presentations
- Knowledge of Vulnerable Adults Procedures and Adults under Mental Capacity Act
- Mentoring of junior members of staff and students.
- Advanced clinical assessment skills or willingness to develop these.
- To have proven experience of service development.
- Experience of running research and audit programmes.
- Project management skills
- To be flexible regarding early/ late appointment times as necessary

Job summary
Epilepsy is a serious neurological condition that can affect anyone, at any age andfrom any walk of life and affects around one in every 100 people in the UK. Theconsequences of an epilepsy diagnosis are severe and wide-reaching. Diagnosiscan result in the loss of a driving licence and loss of employment. It can alsoaffect someone's education and employment prospects, and lead to an increaseddegree of social isolation.The post of the Epilepsy Specialist Nurse would involve help to promote and leadgood practice in the diagnosis, management and treatment of adults who live withepilepsy. This would also involve providing a seamless, high quality service inproviding support, advice and education to, their families and carers.They would also be expected to work in collaboration with the widerMultidisciplinary Team involved in epilepsy and maintain their own continuingprofessional development
Main duties of the job
Clinical Practice? To provide and manage an expert specialist nursing service for adults withepilepsy.? To develop, organise and manage the provision of nurse led clinics foradults with epilepsy across Cumbria? To provide expert nursing advice and support to patients, their families andother healthcare professionals following diagnosis and through treatment? To ensure continuity of a high standard of evidence based nursing care,assessing health, health related and nursing needs of patients, their families andother carers by identifying and initiating appropriate steps for effective care.
