Examining Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction claims to ensure that the correct evidence & information is obtained in accordance with the standards required by the contract procedures.
Updating computer records with claim information and correspond with customers to obtain the evidence necessary for the assessment and award of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction.
Calculating entitlement to Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction by the prompt and accurate assessment of new claims, interventions, cancellations, changes of circumstances, data matches and the correct classification of overpayments in line with legislation and contract procedures.
Making decisions on the recovery of benefit overpayments, underlying entitlement and backdate requests in line with legislation and contract procedures.
Dealing with requests from customers for the revision and/or reassessment of benefit entitlement.
Maintaining a detailed knowledge of Benefit legislation, including keeping up-to date with all Department for Work and Pensions Circulars and the use of application systems (i.e. Civica).
When necessary, dealing with customers and organisations, such as the Department for Work and Pensions, by telephone ensuring accurate information is given in a positive manner.
Excellent communication skills
Strong decision making and innovative problem-solving skills
Solid understanding of current legislation and best practice
A good manner and ability to deal with customers with sympathy and tact
Working to deadlines and achieving performance targets

Here at Capita Local Public Services we have an exciting role for someone to join us as a Benefits Assessor, working from home you will assist our clients with queries relating to Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction ensuring that they have all of the support and guidance that they need. You be responsible for updating the relevant systems and delivering the administrative work needed to ensure that their files are correct and meet the standards set for us.
