      Business Intelligence (BI) Engineers are responsible for the successful delivery, design and support of high visibility desktop reports, mobile reports and dashboards. BI Engineers leverage BI applications in accordance with application development standards and best practices. BI Engineers work closely with Product Owners and Systems Analysts during wireframe development. This role may also engage with BI Solution Architects and Data Architect to assist in solution design efforts including analysis, design and architecture. BI Engineers are responsible for incident management and providing proper feedback to end-users regarding reporting system status and/or errors.

      ROLE

      Translates business needs into technical specifications to deliver customized reporting systems.

      Manages end-to-end development and support of Costco’s BI reporting environments for ongoing metrics, reports, dashboards, etc.

      Assists in the design and development of proof of concept and prototype application environments.

      Creates data visualizations that illustrate data learnings and insights in an understandable and user-friendly manner through UI/UX design.

      Adopts and adapts to newly approved technologies, programming languages, tools, and standards for business intelligence.

      Collaborates to ensure application designs utilize appropriate patterns and standards.

      Creates and refines dashboard user manuals for each reporting application / visualization.

      Documents BI application specifications and produces operational support manuals.

      Analyzes business needs and software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints, including the ability to estimate work needed.

      Identifies and interprets trends, patterns, and correlations among various data points.

      Assesses functional and nonfunctional requirements and creates designs to meet both business and technical needs.

      Designs, builds, and maintains automated reporting, dashboards, and analysis to enable teams to self-service data needs.

      Supports defining technical requirements such as tool or platform selection criteria for the reporting environments.

      Assists in solution design efforts (i.e. analysis, data warehouse design, architecture) and understands the data warehouse or data marts implementation related to BI.

      Designs and develops reporting solutions in Microsoft Power BI based on business requirements.

      Designs and develops semantic models in Azure Analysis Services for BI and self-service user consumption.

      Provides expertise in data visualization and graphical report design.

      Participates in upgrade and migration projects from legacy to Power BI.

      Defines and follows Power BI development best practices.

      Works closely with Product Owners and data development teams to drive requirements to completion.

      Maintains and supports existing business intelligence solutions.

      Maintains knowledge of industry standards, best practices, and upcoming product releases, with a focus on MS Azure solutions.

      Mentors other developers in utilizing the tools to the best of their abilities.

      REQUIRED

      5+ years’ experience creating complex reports, dashboard applications, and scorecards.

      5+ years’ experience with MS Power BI and/or Azure Analysis Services (AAS).

      5+ years’ experience with SQL, with proven ability to write efficient queries.

      2+ years’ experience with other BI Tools including Cognos, BOBJ or Tableau.

      Experience writing reports over various data sources including Oracle, HANA, and SQL Server databases.

      Strong problem solving and data analysis skills.

      Ability to follow processes and execute project deliverables in a timely manner.

      Strong written and verbal communication skills.

      Solid understanding of data modeling concepts.

      Ability to manage and prioritize multiple requests.

      Proven ability and desire to grow technical skill set.

      Recommended

      Experience working with various Cloud technologies.

      Experience with Agile development methodology.

      Pay Ranges:

      Level 2 - $100,000 - $140,000

      Level 3 - $130,000 - $170,000

      Level 4 - $160,000 - $205,000, Bonus and Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) eligible
