      About the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics

      The college is home to five academic departments: Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Geography and the Environment, Mathematics, and Physics and Astronomy.       About the Department of Biological Sciences

      The Department of Biological Sciences focuses on two areas of research and teaching; 1) Cell and Molecular Biology – including biophysics, neuroscience, cell signaling, and developmental biology, and 2) Ecology, Biodiversity – including behavioral ecology, plant-insect interactions, conservation biology, restoration ecology, and evolution. The department offers undergraduate majors of study including Biology (B.A./B.S.), Molecular Biology (B.S./B.S.), Ecology, and BioDiversity (B.A./B.S.) Physiology of Health and Disease (BS) and Integrated Sciences (B.A.). A concentration in Cognitive Neurosciences (B.A./B.S.) is also offered in conjunction with the Department of Psychology. At the graduate level, the department offers M.S. and Ph.D. with a research emphasis in either of the two research emphases described above.

      Position Summary

      The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Denver invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level for the academic year 2023-2024 beginning September 1, 2023.

      We are seeking candidates with research interests directed at cellular and molecular mechanisms of aging and age-related diseases including but not limited to, neurodegenerative disorders, cancer, and diabetes. Individuals applying advanced cell biology, molecular, and genetic approaches, as well as model organisms, are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. and post-doctoral experience in an appropriate field, will develop an extramurally funded research program, will supervise Ph.D. and M.S. students and undergraduate research projects and will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in area of expertise. The candidate’s research program should augment the research directions in the Department of Biological Sciences and-or the Knoebel Institute for Healthy Aging. Existing research groups at the Institute are focused Alzheimer’s disease, ALS, Parkinson’s disease, Down syndrome and Healthy Aging.       • Experience in teaching and developing college level biology courses.

      Working Environment

      2. Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.

      Salary Grade Number:
      The salary grade for the position is UC.

      Salary Range:
      The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $85,000.

The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
