- Operational Management: Establishes and maintains policies and procedures to address operational and long-term goals, including cash handling, pricing standards, loss prevention, book buyback, and customer relations. Ensures a high level of customer satisfaction by providing friendly, knowledgeable assistance to students, faculty, and other bookstore patrons. Resolves customer complaints or concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Marketing Strategy and Oversight: Designs and maintains an effective marketing strategy to increase Bookstore volume. Assures an appealing product mix, designs displays, develops promotion of bookstore merchandise, and explores emerging trends and business opportunities to diversify the bookstore's offerings and expand its reach within the campus community.
- Data Collection and Analysis: Directs the collection and processing of data; analyzes results and prepares related reports. Assures proper accounting, cash handling and maintenance of records including inventory, invoices, and purchase orders are applied and implemented.
- Inventory Management and Ordering: Oversees inventory supply and demand, plans merchandising, researches new product, removes discontinued inventory, and selects appropriate vendors. Maintains accurate inventory records for all merchandise, including textbooks, school supplies, apparel, and other items.
- Monitor sales trends and student demand to optimize inventory levels and ensure sufficient stock of required course materials. Coordinates with vendors and publishers to order and replenish inventory as needed.
- Budget Planning and Administration: Prepares and implements budgets to meet departmental, divisional and institutional objectives. Monitors budget activity. Approves payment invoices consistent with established policies and procedures; supports audit procedures by ensuring recording of cash received and verification of invoices approved for payment is in compliance.
- Ethics and Confidentiality: Practices honesty by demonstrating a consistent and uncompromising adherence to strong moral and ethical principles, values, truthfulness and accuracy in all actions. Addresses all student and employee behavior in a confidential and respectful manner.
- Cross Functional Relationships and Collaborative Teamwork: Establishes, maintains, and enhances positive work relationships with staff, faculty, administrators, third-party vendors, and the public.
- Leadership and Supervision: Develops and manages high performing team highly skilled and motivated staff focused on the delivery of quality and value-added services and allocates cross-functional responsibilities and work processes. Responsibilities include hiring, coaching/mentoring, performance management, and progressive discipline as needed.
- Continuous Learning & Professional Development: Maintains current knowledge of best practices and standards in higher education with an emphasis on community Colleges. Actively organizes and/or participates in applicable workgroups, training, workshops, seminars, committees and professional associations or conferences to promote continuous learning.
- Other duties: Performs other related duties within the scope of the position as required for the efficient operation of the division and to support institutional objectives.
- General knowledge of accepted business and retailing practices.
- Knowledge of publisher practices, trends, and related policies.
- Knowledge of proper financial and cash handling methods and procedures as well as of budgeting and financial management practices.
- Knowledge of retail management information systems, point-of-sale systems, and (third party) wholesale inventory management systems.
- Knowledge of effective principles of supervision and management. Demonstrate leadership ability and team building skills to effectively supervise professional and staff and interact with all levels of management
- Ability to plan, organize, and oversee the operation of a large bookstore in multiple locations.
- Ability to collect and process data; analyze results and prepare related reports.
- Ability to establish workflows, manages multiple projects, and meets necessary deadlines.
- Sensitive to dealing with individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures. Open, objective, and will seek to understand issues from multiple perspectives. Innovative in developing options that are responsive to differing needs.
- Ability to use computers and software specific to position, including CRM; Enterprise systems, spreadsheets, presentation software and Google Suite.

Under the direction of the Dean of Student Experience, the Manager, Bookstore, is responsible efficient and effective operation of the bookstore including planning, organizing and supervising all Bookstore operations to meet profitability objectives. Initiates all bookstore activities, including ordering, merchandising, receiving and inventory.
Work also requires assessment, judgment, analysis, and decision-making and interpersonal skills according to established practices and procedures. Assignments are completed independently with interaction with the supervisor limited to problems or unusual conditions

Required Education & Experience : Bachelor's degree required and five (5) years of progressively responsible work experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience to provide the following knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Must have a minimum of two (2) years of supervisory, management, or lead experience in administrative or educational settings.
Preferred Education & Experience : Master’s degree in relevant field and three (3) years of progressively responsible work experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience to provide the following knowledge, skills, and abilities.

This is a full time position. This position works business hours, Monday - Friday. May be required to work additional hours an occasional night and or weekend as necessary.
SalarySalary is listed to the midpoint of the salary range and is based on the 2023/2024 rates and are determined by years of experience credit and internal salary equity.
