If you are looking for an entrepreneurial position with opportunity to influence a brokerage light sub vertical and build out a new appetite and platform, our Brokerage Light Underwriter position is for you. Coaction is looking for talented and driven candidates who combine strategic thinking, creativity, and pragmatic execution to drive business results. This position will develop and manage the growth and portfolio of a profitable book of business and will have the opportunity to influence the department on all levels. They will also be responsible for building and maintaining effective relationships with our select distribution partners in the E&S marketplace as you generate and execute true differentiated coverage and services for your line of business.

The primary purpose of this position is to underwrite and manage the brokerage light portfolio. New business and renewals will be managed in a profitable manner and according to authority level and established guidelines and participate in special projects having an impact on the business. Utilize underwriting tools to determine accurate classifications, rates, and premium charges. Understand state laws, including cancellation and non-renewal, within assigned territory to properly transact business within each state. Knowledgeable in coverage forms and policy language, appropriate utilization of forms and exclusions. Market and drive profitable business.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain highly effective business relationships with assigned MGU partners, develop/grow and retain profitable business
• Independently manage an agency portfolio to meet both growth and profitability goals for Brokerage Light and corporately
• Thorough knowledge in property underwriting and market. Assist in the ongoing development of the Property product offering, including management of rates, development of enhancement endorsements, and coverage knowledge
• Drives product/service/selection/pricing innovation for the Binding Authority property product
• Underwrites within established program guidelines and individual underwriting authority
• Works with actuarial to best understand trends within the book or program and how to react accordingly
• Completes all required steps on documentation and account management.
• Communicate and collaborate across the organization- such as Claims, Product Management, Loss Control, Legal, Marketing, Reinsurance, Actuarial and Customer Service to provide solutions/recommendations and achieve organizational success.

Qualifications:

• 5-8 years plus years in wholesale Property and Casualty underwriting.
• Designations a plus
• Strong presentation and interpersonal skills
• Established Bind or Brokerage Light E&S relationships and demonstrated ability to build relationships with new agencies.
• Technology skills to include MS Word and MS Excel and underwriting portal proficiency.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills.
• Demonstrates strong negotiation skills
• Must be a team player that enjoys a flexible and spontaneous business environment with a desire to succeed.
• Up to 25% travel
