Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity is seeking an organized, professional, and results oriented individual to serve as Accountant within the Budget Office. The Accountant position will assist in analyzing, monitoring and preparing reports on the Department’s expenditures while ensuring spending plans are in line with budgetary requirements. This position will coordinate program budgets with program managers and instruct staff on various accounting functions. The ideal candidate will be organized and have the ability to analyze and report on expenditure data. Job Responsibilities
1.Under immediate supervision, participates in an agency sponsored training program of six to twelve months, receiving work assignments designed to develop knowledge, understanding and practical skills consistent with (you can insert agency specific information here). the various professional accounting or fiscal administration career disciplines within a state agency.
2. Completes assignments of increasing difficulty within the accounting, grant, loan, or budget system, processes procedures for completeness and accuracy.
3. Reviews and approves budgets, contract maintenance adjustments and budget transfers to ensure request complies with terms of the grant, federal regulations and applicable policies and procedures.
4. Receives training to review and analyze financial data and reports.
5. Assists supervisor with research and completion of special projects, to receive and develop knowledge of Agency Accounting and Budgetary practices and policies in departmental programs.
6. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
1.Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting or an allied field. This class is included as an Upward Mobility Program credential title.
Qualifying state employees in the Upward Mobility Program should follow the Upward Mobility Policy Guidelines when applying for this title.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Prefers coursework or training in the area of public administration, business administration, or management information systems.
2. Prefers completion of training classes or programs in usage of Microsoft business software applications.
Conditions of Employment
1. Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
