Job Description

- Reflecting the diversity of AWF’s conservation activities;
- Highlighting biodiversity values, incredible wildlife, but also major threats;
- Giving voice and representation to all stakeholders involved in conservation efforts: communities, employees, partners, beneficiaries, etc.;
- Promoting the work of our teams, highlighting their successes as well as their challenges;
- Highlighting tourism-focused assets, sites, activities, and facilities to support marketing efforts.

- Working with the AWF team leads, in-country communications leads and the AWF country directors/ co-coordinators and project team(s), to identify compelling stories, events, and the most interesting program sites to visit that will best enable the content to be captured,
- In the case of videos, draft one or several script(s) in advance,
- Draft an itinerary for the mission
- Using the consent form template provided by AWF, ensure that consent is obtained from every non-AWF staff member recorded, and documented during the specified mission.
- The production company will be given flexibility in contributing their expertise and experience in choosing what to photograph/shoot but will follow the directions of AWF staff and guidelines provided as an addendum to this document.
- The production company will own and retain copyright to all photographic or videographic material created under the present agreement but grants AWF a royalty-free, perpetual, worldwide license to publish, use, distribute, redistribute, reproduce, and publicly display the images or videos, to sublicense the use of the images or videos, and to create derivative works from the images or videos, in perpetuity, in any print, electronic, digital or other formats, in any media publications, channels, materials or exhibitions for purposes of promoting the AWF’s mission, including but not limited to editorial, advertising, marketing, publicity, and fundraising purposes, and any other use without payment of compensation. Whenever used, the AWF will use reasonable efforts to afford the photographer a credit
- The production company will ensure that any, and all material used in the final product is/are fully licensed with AWF as the license holder. The production company will take total liability if there are any disputes to that effect.
- The production company will be free to use the photos or videos resulting from this assignment for their own purposes (appropriate location attribution will be used with all images or videos). In the event that any use may in any way, conflict with AWF’s goals or materially benefit any other organization, the production company must seek approval from AWF beforehand. The production company may in no case license the resulting photos or videos to an image database.
- The photographer or videographer must comply with the Country of assignment’s laws, the AWF’s Code of Conduct, AWF’s Right based approach to conservation, as well as any health and safety protocols applicable.
- Managing, maintaining, and insuring their own equipment and editing suite; including licenses for any software used.
- Obtaining their Visa documents for International assignments;
- Health, Travel, and Accident insurance, providing proof of this in advance
- Ensuring they have any required personal medication, and all the required and recommended vaccinations (for international assignments).
- Minimum of three (3) years of documented work experience in the area of film/reporting/documentary writing, producing, directing, photography, and editing;
- Experience working in remote areas in Africa;
- Command of the English Language
- Proficiency in the French language is highly desirable for applications in Francophone Countries;
- Professional level of photography or videography skills;
- Access to the highest quality editing suites
- Ability to animate text and graphics
- Ability to operate under strict time limits and apply high production and technical standards to maintain a high level of professionalism.
- A track record of successful materials edited in their country of origin and on similar topics would be an asset.
- Ability to work in the field, often in challenging conditions;
- Ability to find human-interest stories.
- A 6-minute documentary film within the following parameters.
- 5-day shoot, including 2 travel days

- AWF will review and evaluate all proposals to determine each proposer's rating. This evaluation may include a request by AWF to interview proposers and receive additional information for the purpose of clarifying their proposals.
- The proposals offering the most advantageous terms based on the criteria below will be pre-selected as part of the roster of professional production companies.
- AWF may reject any or all proposals if, in its sole opinion, no proposal satisfies its criteria.
- The professional/firm technical capability to provide the services (25%);
- Project-related experience of the firm/proposed staff and knowledge of the context (30%);
- Added value for executing the scope of work in the best conditions for AWF including being in line with AWF mandate, vision, and values (30%);
- Client References (5%);

Background
The African Wildlife Foundation is the primary advocate for the protection of wildlife and their habitats as an essential part of a modern and prosperous Africa. Founded in 1961 during the African independence movement to build our capacity to steward our natural resources, AWF articulates a uniquely African vision, bridging science, education, public policy, and field programs to demonstrate the benefits of conservation and build a future for Africa where people and wildlife thrive.
In service of our vision, the AWF Brand & Public Engagement department collects, curates, and documents AWF projects & activities. We prepare audio-visual and written content for our marketing collateral, fundraising tools, and storytelling outputs for a multitude of media.
Objectives
The objective of this Call for expressions of interest is to establish a Roster of professional photographers and videographers.
Resulting assignments will aim at capturing and editing high-quality photos and videos of AWF’s conservation work that takes place in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, DRC, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Cameroon, and Niger. The content to be created should focus on:
