      Shkaabe Makwa is a Centre for First Nations, Inuit and Métis Wellness at CAMH that supports culturally relevant systems initiatives to achieve health equity and community wellness in collaboration with First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities and service providers across Ontario. Through the implementation of wise practices, evidence-based models, trauma-informed interventions, and the advancement of research, Shkaabe Makwa strives to transform health outcomes which harmonize traditional knowledge and medical expertise.

      Position Description:

      Shkaabe Makwa is seeking a First Nation, Inuit, or Métis person for a full-time, contract (12 months) Community Engagement Assistant position. Located in Toronto, the Community Engagement Coordinator will represent Shkaabe Makwa at community career fairs, post-secondary education career fairs, community events, and Indigenous conferences.

      Reporting to Manager, Operations, the successful candidate will be an integral part of the Shkaabe Makwa team at CAMH. The Community Engagement Assistant will support Shkaabe Makwa in planning and developing calendar of events for Shkaabe Makwa participation. The successful incumbent will work alongside the Manager, Operations to identify employment and volunteer gaps of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis staff across CAMH. The Community Engagement Assistant will engage and develop connections between CAMH student coordinators and relevant university programs that will increase the number of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis student placements.

      The Community Engagement Assistant will also assist with the development of strategies and relationships agreements with First Nation, Inuit, and Métis communities, agencies and organizations to foster Indigenous enlistment across Shkaabe Makwa. The Community Engagement Assistant will provide hands-on coordination, planning, and implementation of outreach initiatives and building and facilitating relationships with internal CAMH staff, external Indigenous organizations, and other stakeholders as needed. The Community Engagement Assistant will also have a strong understanding of social media and be responsible for creating content as well as supporting and monitoring Shkaabe Makwa social media channels. The position is located at 60 White Squirrel Way in Toronto. The position may require occasional evening and weekend hours, as well as travel throughout Ontario, including remote First Nations communities.

      Qualifications:

      The incumbent must be a First Nations, Inuit or Métis person with demonstrated community connections. Excellent organization, facilitation, communication, networking, research, and presentation skills, along with high computer proficiency are necessary. Candidates also require the ability to work effectively in a wide-range of settings with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Bilingualism (English / French) and/or the ability to speak an Indigenous language are considered an asset. The successful candidate will possess a post-secondary diploma, and a minimum of 1 year of secretarial/administrative experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. In this role, the incumbent is expected to have excellent multi-tasking skills, to work efficiently and effectively under minimal supervision, and adaptable to different styles of leadership. The individual will possess superior interpersonal, organizational, problem solving, and client-centered skills, detail-accuracy oriented, particularly while working under high-pressure situations, and dealing with conflicting priorities. The incumbent is able to demonstrate utmost confidentiality in all situations and have the ability to work as a member of a larger team. Candidates are expected to be well versed in PC skills, namely with Microsoft office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), social media sites (Facebook), LinkedIn, websites, database software, and web-based survey tools. The incumbent will have proven skills and experience in successful organization of events ranging from small to large scale. The individual will have strong Excel skills and previous experience tracking expenditures and monitoring budgets.

      Please Note: This full-time, contract position (12 months) and is part of the OPSEU bargaining unit.

      Salary Range: $26.57 - $32.75 per hour
