Primary Responsibilities:

• Carries out all responsibilities associated with the chaplaincy to engage, inspire, and challenge students consistent with Lovett’s core values, mission, and whole child education model including:
  • Plans and leads weekly chapel services that are biblically rooted and reflect Lovett’s Core Values, inclusivity, and are welcoming to all faiths.
  • Supports the planning and coordinating of all-school chapels and additional opportunities for students and staff to worship
  • Acts as an ambassador of Lovett’s faith identity at all times
  • Works to see everyone at Lovett, regardless of religious orientation or interest as his/her charges; promotes interfaith dialogue, sharing, and learning
  • Participates in department, faculty, team, and grade-level meetings as required
  • Offers confidential counseling to students, faculty, and staff, and/or makes referrals to other professional counselors when requested
  • Responds to concerns regarding the spiritual life of the school
  • Teaches meaningful, academically substantive, and age-appropriate class(es) as appropriate for the division, fosters dialogue with other faith traditions
  • Provides guidance and leadership to divisional bible study and service opportunities.
• Fulfills additional duties as assigned, including responsibilities that may occur on weekends and evenings (e.g. admission open house, observations, and interviews).
• Serves on the all-school chaplaincy team and a divisional Administrative Team.
• Provides immediate and ongoing emotional and spiritual support to the Lovett community in times of hardship or loss.

Position Requirements:

• Master’s degree in Divinity, Religious Studies or related field
• Children/youth ministry background/ordination is preferred but not required
• Experience designing and leading worship services
• A love of working with young people and a willingness to engage them as whole students, balancing care and compassion with challenge and accountability
• Socially skilled as an inviting gatherer who welcomes but does not obligate, organizes but does not control, is inclusive and sensitive
• Can navigate discussions with those of different belief systems with warmth and calm
• Must be able to function effectively and inclusively in a school environment while also exercising sound judgment in controlling disruptive and destructive influences that could fragment the community
• The drive, organization, and flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment, contributing to the school community beyond the classroom
• Excellent written and oral communication skills to facilitate effective communication with students, parents, colleagues, and supervisors
• A strong desire to work in a collaborative learning community, employing a growth mindset and participating in ongoing professional development during the school year and summer
• Desire and ability to develop an atmosphere of trust and knowledge of students as individuals
• Commitment to developing one’s cultural self-awareness, cultural competence, and emotional intelligence
• Ethical behavior, professionalism, and regular and reliable attendance
