Over the past 3 years, Mars Wrigley has been on a journey of Digital Transformation in order to stay relevant and drive competitive advantage in an increasing VUCA world, where consumers are shifting preferences and behaviors, where customers are transforming, and where our Associates are transitioning into digital ways of working.
As we are entering into the next horizon with an ambition to almost double the size of our business by 2030 we see digital and data as an increasing multiplier of value across not just Mars Wrigley, but the Health and Wellness and Retail global business units of Mars Snacking. Institutionalizing a culture that values data as an asset as important as our people will be essential. We look to greatly simplify how we operate our business processes and fully digitize this business making it easier for Associates to work at Mars Wrigley.
With this in mind, we need to establish robust data quality practices, operating models and tooling to proactively manage our data end to end. This includes working with our Global Business Services unit for Master data, establishing functional data stewards embedded in our transactional operating models and global processes and working with our data and analytics teams to strategically enable cloud data platforms and standards.
The Chief Data Officer (CDO) is a newly created role for Mars Wrigley and will act as the lead agent for change to drive awareness and lead the mindset shift, culture transformation, and new ways of working at Mars Wrigley to become data led. The CDO will act as an evangelist to lead with business value waterfalls and shape successful realization of key outcomes aligned with business strategy. The CDO must have a strong blend of vision, pragmatism, business and technology leadership skills and the ability to effectively communicate, collaborate with and influence senior business and technical leaders.
The CDO will define, design and lead enterprise-wide data strategy, roadmap, and key data metrics that drive sustained growth and value. The CDO will lead and enable scalable foundational data and platform capabilities, that will help us be more agile. This individual will enable our data and analytics teams to govern and standardize our data assets, strategically acquire data with significant signal value and drive standardization.Essential Responsibilities:
Data strategy
• Data audit and root cause analysis
• Prioritization and roadmapping
• In concert with Digital Technologies and Analytics teams, CDO will lead and develop enterprise-wide strategies and tools to support long term growth and ability to capture value
• Drive requirements, development, collection, organization, and availability of new data to support business needs in the short and long (5+ year) horizon.Data Operating model
• Define data standards, processes and accountabilities for the CDO team and beyond.Data Innovation
• Seek better solutions, methods, and processes for delivering data to enable best in class analytical results across multiple horizonsData Capability
• Partner with P&O and regional business leaders to define the organization and processes needed to ensure data savviness and data integrity.
• Partner with P&O and functional teams in developing and executing appropriate change managementBusiness Partnership and Empowerment
• Translate complex data and analytical concepts to consumable business implications and leverage storytelling to convince Group Presidents and Executive leadership to accelerate the AI journey.
• Partner with Technology, PMO, analytics teams and business owners to provide the data applications that will power analytical solutions to existing business questions and help define new questions to enable growth and win in marketplace
• Enable a distributed group of data scientists across a decentralized analytics organization to experiment and answer complex business questions.
• Build relationships with end-user communities and front-line customers.Accountability
• Account for financial investment plans for solutions to ensure alignment with business goals and meet market windows of opportunity
• Ensure team and adjacent associates’ adherence to governance processes, integration processes, standards, balanced with an action orientation and urgency in delivering results.
Knowledge & Experience required
• Recent experience as an enterprise data leader and/or Chief Data Officer preferred
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Business, Statistics or related major or equivalent business experience. Master’s/ PhD degree preferred
• 15+ years of experience in data strategy, data architecture, data management, and/or data science, advanced analytics, or other related technical discipline
• Leads organization, typically through multiple levels of managers and diverse activities; develops and executes the organization’s strategy to achieve key business objectives; Mentors managers to meet professional and strategic goals
• Accountable for the performance and results of diverse disciplines within an IT function; Anticipates and plans for operational challenges that can hinder advancement of the strategic plan
• Knowledgeable about cloud data platforms and hypervisors such as Azure, Google CP, Snowflake, etc.
• Experience with various structured and unstructured data bases and ETL technologies and systems, such as Oracle, Informatica, Cisco (Big-data and/or Cloud-based database services experience preferred)
• A strong team- and customer-focused director with a demonstrated ability to manage a significant data products management function in a complex, global business environment
• Extensive experience with executing strategic plans and technology roadmaps; Anticipates and evaluates key business challenges; directs the development of new or innovative solutions
• Influences and negotiates with great latitude on outcomes both internally and externally; presents and defends complicated or delicate issue.
