- As a critical member of the senior leadership team, provide forward-looking numbers, including performing ad hoc analysis and presenting at senior leadership meetings.
- Be a trusted advisor and strategic partner to the COO (and the executive team and Board of Trustees, as appropriate) to ensure that the mission, vision, goals, and values of The Rockefeller Foundation are achieved.
- Play a significant role in the development and execution of the company’s global strategy, using the finance function to deepen change and be a genuine driver of the organization.
- Bring a global perspective to the role and the leadership team, ideally based on deep experience in international organizations and the engagement of multinational teams.
- Report to the Board of Trustees for audit, budget, risk management, workers' compensation, pension, liability, and treasury duties.
- Be a strategic leader who can articulate financials, build business cases, and build the processes to implement solutions.
- Provide financial oversight as an officer of RFCC, the charity arm of The Rockefeller Foundation.
- Provide tax compliance and filing 990-PF, 990-T, state, international, and other filings.
- Ensure that key sensitivities, risks, and uncertainties in the annual budget and financial strategic plan, including with respect to its international activities, are appropriately called out for review and oversight by key constituents.
- Partner with the CIO and Investments Office in coordinating cash planning, audit and reporting, and risk management related to operational due diligence.
- Provide oversight of the Foundation Services team and global facilities.
- Provide leadership and actions to enhance diversity and inclusion within the finance team and across the organization.
- Bachelor's Degree required, CPA and/or MBA required.
- Skills and experience consistent with a graduate degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related discipline – the ability to perform complex analysis of financial data; financial modeling, ability to assess financially related business capabilities, identify gaps and recommend solutions; ability to understand and assess financial aspects of business projects; strong oral and written communications skills.
- Generally expected to have 15 years of experience in a complex for-profit, or not-for-profit organization required; including familiarity with the operations, business needs, organizational structure, functional roles, and responsibilities, terminology, regulatory requirements, traditional projects, and problems, trends, and planning requirements; broad understanding of the sector and philanthropy preferred.
- Advanced technical, organizational, and project management skills and knowledge of business management practices required.
- Excellent conflict management, negotiation, and influencing skills; ability to diagnose and assess situations; ability to identify and describe differences in organizational culture and leadership style; ability to remain composed and objective in conflict situations; skill in developing and introducing alternative approaches; ability to understand and integrate diverse perspectives.
- Experience managing projects in a complex organization and with outsourced partners and contractors.
- Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with people individually and in groups; ability to communicate with technical and non-technical colleagues; experience establishing and maintaining effective relationships with functional leaders by understanding their department, its role in the organization, and its internal and external links.
- Extensive experience leading, managing, and participating on teams with shared responsibility for outcomes and decision-making.
- Expertise in managing and leading meetings; experience developing agendas, facilitating discussions, establishing expectations, resolving conflict, encouraging participation and involvement, communicating roles, and assigning responsibilities.
- Excellent presentation skills including the ability to tailor information and delivery to the audience; manage pace, timing, and audience engagement; field and respond to questions; adjust approach and content to last-minute changes; present in various formats (slides, video, speaking) and delivery methods (teleconference, video conference, webcast, panel, platform, office demonstration.
- Demonstrated success in positively affecting the dynamics of an organization and industry because of leadership, strategic thinking, analytical, and negotiating skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to mission-related causes, either professionally or through volunteer activities is preferred.

Pay Range : $440,000 - $547,000. This represents the present low and high end of the Foundation’s pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary based on various factors, including but not limited to experience.
Work Schedule : This role is on a hybrid work schedule, and required to be in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
Position Overview
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is an essential leader at The Rockefeller Foundation. The Rockefeller Foundation is seeking an energetic, optimistic, and ethically grounded CFO, who is deeply invested in the Foundation's mission. Reporting directly to the Foundation's Chief Operating Officer, Natalye Paquin, the CFO will be responsible for directing the organization's financial management. The CFO will also have a dotted line reporting to President Dr. Rajiv J. Shah and is responsible for providing support around financial decision-making. This includes the provision of both current and future performance analysis, essential input to forecasting and budgeting, and financial leadership for key business developments. The placed candidate will play a key leadership role in refining financial processes, systems, and infrastructure, improving performance, and continuing a long-term transformation throughout the organization.
The successful candidate will have exceptional communication skills and a proven ability to achieve innovative goals in a fast-paced environment while maintaining the highest standards of fiscal responsibility. The leader will join the senior leadership team of the Foundation and build, inspire, and mentor a team of experienced accountants, budget, and finance managers as well as a team of facilities managers. This CFO will promote a culture of trust, transparency, inclusivity, and accountability. Experience with capital mobilization and leading a charity is a plus.
Acting as an effective business partner, the CFO will be highly engaged with the COO, senior leadership team (and the executive team and Board of Trustees as appropriate) and will provide operational and strategic support to the Foundation. They will work to develop and oversee the organization's strategic plan to further develop a best-in-class finance function.
The CFO will provide financial oversight as an officer of RFCC, the charity arm of The Rockefeller Foundation. Moreover, the CFO will play a pivotal role in guiding The Rockefeller Foundation toward achieving its goal of becoming net zero by 2050.
