Nelnet is hiring a new head of People Services. Beyond a mere title, this position represents the heartbeat of our organization, influencing every facet of our vibrant community. The position is often referred to as head of Human Resources in other companies.
The Chief People Services Officer will report directly to the CEO of the Company and will be in charge of all things “People” inside of the company. This role extends far beyond traditional Human Resources; it's about fostering an environment where every individual can thrive and reach their full potential.

The mission of the People Services team is to foster Human Development inside all of the businesses and within the entirety of Nelnet. At its base the core function is to develop people and to ignite human potential – to recruit, train, support, and enhance the highest level of talent within Nelnet so that we may serve the dreams and potentials of people who are customers of Nelnet, in alignment with our vision and core values.Duties and Responsibilities:
• Collaborate and partner with executive leadership to develop and implement HR strategies to support Nelnet’s objectives and core values.
• Partner and collaborate cross-functionally to implement HR initiatives that create opportunity for associates to thrive and reach their full potential.
• Serve as a thought leader, challenge the status quo, and demonstrate creative problem solving/solutions.
• Lead all aspects of the Human Resources team including HR Operations, Benefits & Wellness, Organizational Training and Development, DE&I, Corporate & Campus Recruiting, Internship Program, Compliance, and HRIS. Maintain an environment of continuous learning to ensure the team has the tools and resources needed to support Nelnet’s associates.
• Drive Nelnet’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) programs, including Associate Resource Groups.
• Identify KPIs for Nelnet’s human resource functions and assess the team’s success and market competitiveness based on these metrics.
• Invest continuously in personal professional development to maintain and increase knowledge of innovation, best practices, laws, and regulations.
• Manages and is responsible for HR team’s annual budget.
• Mitigate HR-related risks by proactively addressing and resolving compliance issues.
• Serves as the Affirmative Action Officer, overseeing the reporting, action plans, and progress of the Affirmative Action Plan.
• Prepare and provide legal responses in partnership with General Counsel when applicable.
• Lead and support compliance with all governmental and labor requirements; including Federal and State laws.

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s or law degree a plus.
• Minimum of five years of experience in a business field such as management, legal with experience in human resource a plus.
• Experience with complex organizations, with multi-site in office, hybrid, remote work environment experience highly preferred.
• A comprehensive understanding of relevant employment & labor laws and regulations a plus.
• Experience in mergers and acquisitions, encompassing payroll integration, benefits consolidation, staff conversion, communications management, and related aspects.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high performing teams.
Salary Range: $275,000- $350,000 DOE
This role is based in office out of the Lincoln, NE Headquarters.
