      Career Opportunity

      The city of Las Vegas invites applications for City Administrative Receptionist. This position performs general office and receptionist duties to support the functions of the City Manager's Office or City Attorney's Office.

      Supervision Received

      Receives general supervision from various higher level staff.

      Selection Process: The selection process will include a review of all applications with only the most qualified participating in an interview. Final candidate selection will include hiring interview (if applicable). Any individual offered employment will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test and complete background check. Some positions may require preliminary background checks.


      The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list for current and/ or future openings which may include part-time or full-time positions.


      Essential Functions:

      1. Answers phones and directs calls effectively and efficiently.
      2. Provides information to employees and general public.
      3. Handles the purchasing of office supplies and equipment and processes invoices.
      4. Sorts and distributes mail and other correspondence.
      5. Participates in routine record keeping duties.
      6. Operates a variety of office equipment including copiers, multi-line telephone system, facsimile machine and computers.
      7. Organizes and maintains files.
      8. Types memos, reports and documents.
      9. Coordinates travel arrangements for staff; processes and reconciles travel expenses.

      Marginal Functions:

      1. Provides information regarding departmental and city policies and procedures, as required.
      2. Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

      Experience:

      One year of general clerical experience.

      Training:

      Equivalent to graduation from high school.


      Knowledge of:

      Modern office procedures and methods.
      Basic principles of record keeping.
      Modern office equipment.
      Common office software, including word processing, spreadsheets, email and calendar.
      English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
      Basic arithmetic.

      Skills in:

      Dealing effectively with sensitive, confidential and personal issues related to city business.
      Typing at a speed necessary for successful job performance.
      Meeting schedules and time lines.
      Maintaining records and preparing computer generated reports.
      Understanding and following oral and written instructions.
      Communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
      Working with difficult and occasionally irate individuals.
      Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including city officials and the general public.
