FAES | Center for Lake Erie Area ResearchUnder supervision of the Ohio Sea Grant Clean Marinas Program Manager, the Clean Marinas Lake Erie Basin Specialist will oversee and implement the Lake Erie Basin component of the Ohio Clean Marinas and Ohio Clean Boater Programs. This position will work collaboratively with program partners and provide leadership to developing and conducting proactive applied education programs in Clean Marinas, Clean Boaters, Non-Point Source Water Quality, and Lake Erie watershed issues education; utilize industry knowledge of marina laws and best practices, education principles and techniques to coordinate, implement and conduct Lake Erie Basin marina and boating education and certification programs for public and the marina industry; coordinates and directs the Lake Erie Basin Program (i.e., Clean Marina, Clean Boaters, Non-point Source Water Quality); updates, produces and distributes program, educational and promotional materials (e.g., brochures, checklists, pledge forms, guidebooks, fact sheets, articles for publication, newsletters, posters) to appropriate audiences (e.g., marina/boating community, elected and appointed public officials, the Lake Erie Basin community/businesses, current and emerging influential community leaders, community groups and organizations); implements, maintains and expands the Ohio Clean Marina and Clean Boater Programs (e.g., encourages new Clean Marina pledges from Ohio marinas; certifies and/or recertifies Ohio Clean Marinas; contacts pledged marinas to review status, offer support and technical assistance; contacts certified Ohio Clean Marinas for affirmation of good standing); provides individual guidance, information and technical assistance to certified and pledged Ohio Clean Marinas; promotes the Ohio Clean Boater program; obtains new clean boater pledges; assists in implementing the Ohio Shrink Wrap Recycling Program; revises and updates the Ohio Clean Marinas Program to remain consistent with the Ohio Coastal Non-point Pollution Control Program Plan; incorporates policy and regulatory changes and improvements; maintains and updates Ohio Clean Marina and associated program databases for Lake Erie Basin; performs outreach: provides displays at boat shows, state fair and events targeted at operators and boaters; develops and delivers speeches and presentations; represents Program at meetings and seminars in absence of Program Manager; attends educational training/classes to stay up to date on marina industry regulations, environmental issues, and trends (e.g., Docks Expo); participates in professional organizations (e.g., Great Lakes Clean Marina Network); answers program phone inquiries; drives from area to area of the state to perform job duties (e.g., attend meetings, training, conferences, exhibit at boat shows, trade shows, and related boating events, perform site visits at clean marinas); performs miscellaneous administrative duties: develops and implements materials for program delivery (e.g. presentations, curriculum, quarterly reports, newsletters); plans, coordinates, and conducts training (e.g. Clean Marina workshops, special topic training on: aquatic invasive species, stormwater, fuel management, dredged material management, marine debris); keeps accurate records of activities, accomplishments; conducts community data analysis and reporting; determines program and equipment needs; keeps inventory of program materials; prepares budget and monitors expenditures.
Position located in one of Lake Erie’s coastal counties.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in the field of limnology, aquatic biology, marine or natural resources, water quality, environmental education, aquatic ecology, natural resource economics, community development or a related field.
Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
Desired Qualifications: Strong written and oral communication skills and experience in networking with diverse clientele and organizations. Outgoing personality, good people skills, networking skills, team building and collaborative skills are necessary. Experience with developing power point presentations, spreadsheets and good computer skills are required. Demonstrated leadership ability in designing, promoting, implementing and evaluating educational programs and applying skills and processes to the solution of water quality community issues is sought. A willingness to work flexible hours with minimal supervision is expected. Experience on Lake Erie and boating experience is preferred. Some teaching experience (formal or non-formal) is a plus. Knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to marinas and/or boating; public relations; public speaking; environmental or safe boating education. Ability to prepare and deliver educational materials and provide information to general public; gather, collate and classify information about data, people or things. Must attend Clean Marina training for coordinating staff at least annually. Requires working some weekends and holidays; travels overnight with some extended stays; exposed to boating and rescue hazards and inclement weather.
Successful completion of background check is required.

This job profile is a Continuing Education Specialist 2 (S2 level) position on the career roadmap.
The salary range for this position is $21.11-$27.77/hr.
The salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limit to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
