      Job summary

      We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our busy admin team within Cardiac Investigations Unit at North Tyneside General Hospital.

      The role involves a wide variety of tasks including meeting and greeting patients and relatives on arrival to the hospital, answering telephone enquiries, recording attendances, arranging follow up appointments using PAS - Patient Administration System.

      Main duties of the job

      • To assist in the general efficient running of sub-speciality offices including typing/G2transcription, filing, retrieval and storage of patient records, handling post and dealing with telephone enquiries.
      • To cover for other Band 2 Clerical jobs as required.
      • To act up to Band 3 for short-term absences e.g. annual/sick leave.

      • To provide a reception service, acting as first point of contact on the telephone or face to face, for patients, visitors and other healthcareprofessionals.
      • To provide an efficient administration and clerical service to unit staff, visitors and patients.
      • To record attendances, arranging follow up appointments using PAS Patient Administration System and keeping all systems up to date.
      • To undertake general office administration duties including filing, using Mediviewer to retrieve medical notes and information, scanning & handling post.
      • Excellent communication skills and awareness of confidentiality.

      Essential

      • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent in three subjects including English and Mathematics Grade A-D or equivalent experience to demonstrate good numeracy or literacy skills
      • NVQ Level 2 in customer care/admin or equivalent experience

      Desirable

      • RSA 3/OCR (or equivalent)
      • ECDL

      Experience and knowledge

      Desirable

      • Medical Secretary Training
      • Experience of working in hospital-based Health Records or related service within the National Health Service
      • Experience in working in NHS
