Under general supervision, the successful candidate will perform a variety of clerical support functions in the Medical Examiner's office of the Kent County Health Department. Will generate and submit reports; develop and maintain spreadsheets; monitor databases; and perform statistical record keeping. Will serve as the initial point of contact, responding to general inquires and assisting clients by telephone. Will also complete electronic death certificates and issue cremation permits.

The Clerk II should be an individual who is comfortable working in an office that investigates death, and working with the parties who seek the information we have (grieving families, police departments, doctors and funeral homes). This individual may have exposure to viewing postmortem images and reading traumatic case narratives. At times the work may be emotional or even uncomfortable. Sensitivity and professionalism are paramount.High school diploma or equivalent and one year of successful clerical experience. Must be able to maintain accuracy of work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. Must possess excellent computer skills including Word, Excel, database and Internet applications.

Must possess effective communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to positively interact with clients from a wide range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Delivering excellent customer service to all clients while maintaining confidentiality of information is essential.
