      Laboratory operating hours are Monday - Saturday, 6:30 am - 3:00 pm.

      Pay Rate: $54/hour

      Reports to: Laboratory Technical Director and Lab Manager

      Location: Fresno, CA


      (Note: This position includes on-call responsibilities and IRL coverage based on operational needs.)

      Job Summary:

      As one of only two blood donor testing laboratories in the State of California, we are seeking a California-licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS), responsible for performing and maintaining high complexity throughput laboratory testing on blood donor and patient specimens, interpreting and reporting results, performing quality control and quality assurance procedures, participating in CAP inspection and complying with all applicable local, state, federal laboratory requirements, and following current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).


      Essential Job Functions:

      • Demonstrates proficiency and follows Laboratory standard operation procedures and policies by adherence to quality assurance guidelines for equipment and work area, documenting corrective action to any non-conforming event.
      • Performs all assigned duties in compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations.
      • Provides technical support/liaison to center operations and ensures quality customer service to all customers.
      • Performs high complexity throughput FDA-required Blood Donor testing. Assays performed on fully automated instruments such as Beckman Coulter PK7300, Immucor NEO Iris, Grifols Panther, also moderate complexity assays on Abbott Alinity, and Horiba ABX.
      • Performs scheduled instrument maintenance and maintains all QC logs; analyzes complex problems with the ability to troubleshoot and/or contact Technical Support in a timely manner.
      • Provides technical support to hospital transfusion services by performing high complexity testing including antibody, identification, antigen screens, absorptions, DTT treatment, EGA treatment, elutions and Sickle Cell screening.
      • Perform other QA tasks, e.g., proficiency testing, competency assessment, maintain records of QA activities.
      • Prepares reagents, maintains an adequate supply of materials for test procedures,and and manages inventory to effectively reduce departmental waste/expense.
      • Exercises clinical judgment in assessing priorities while identifying problems and offering solutions to test systems independently or through the appropriate department channels.
      • Assists with writing, review and revision of internal standard operating procedures and documentation related to accreditation, adhering to all regulatory requirements for various authorities, including but not limited to CAP, CLIA, AABB, FDA, OSHA.
      • Participates in planning and implementing change through participation in staff meetings, task forces or projects.
      • Maintain donor testing laboratory in a clean, organized state to minimize contamination.
      • Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position.
      • Assists with training and competency assessment.
      • Demonstrate a commitment to working in a dedicated team environment and strict adherence to CCBC employee handbook and all company policies.

      Requirements

      Education, Qualifications, and Skills:

      • Currently licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or MLS (ASCP) is required and must be maintained.
      • 1-2 years of blood bank related hands-on experience within a regulated laboratory bank-related environment is required.
      • Experience in using laboratory automation and manufacturing is desired.
      • Knowledge ofblood-bornelaboratory bank-related safety precautions required for working with blood borne pathogens.
