- Post graduate doctorate in clinical/counselling psychology or equivalent
- OR Specialist post graduate training to Masters level or equivalent in a Psychotherapeutic modality (for example CBT, Systemic or Psychodynamic Psychotherapy) leading to accreditation/registration with UKCP/BABCP or equivalent.
- Registered with appropriate professional body such as HCPC/BABPCP/UKCP
- Further post-doctoral training/qualification relevant to the post, e.g., neuropsychology, dementia and behaviours that challenge and/or NICE accredited psychological therapies.
- Substantial post qualification mental health experience including with older people, those with severe and enduring MH difficulties and those with cognitive impairment and other disabilities.
- Experience of providing clinical supervision in this area of practice.
- Experience of managing applied/assistant psychologists and psychological therapists
- Experience of facilitating reflective practice, post incident debriefs and complex case discussions
- Experience of administering and interpreting neuropsychological assessments
- Experience of supervising staff in the administration and interpretation of neuropsychological assessments

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Psychology Service for Older People, in the West Kent Directorate.
This post would suit someone who has a genuine interest in and substantial experience of working therapeutically with this varied and rewarding client group. An understanding of the needs of those with mental health difficulties as well as of those living with dementia, and the ability to work with those who have cognitive difficulties, is essential.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be primarily situated within the South West Kent Community Mental Health Service for Older People (Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks), with travel expected to other work bases (particularly Maidstone), as required by the responsibilities of the post.
The role involves being part of a multidisciplinary team and supporting colleagues across Older Peoples Psychology Services based in the West Kent Directorate. You will work closely with other community & inpatient colleagues to provide a comprehensive psychology service to older people with a wide range of complex mental health difficulties and dementia.
Experience of conducting and supervising neuropsychological assessment for dementia is a key requirement for this post.
You will be contributing & leading on key priorities in Older Peoples Psychology Services and holding responsibility for line management & clinical supervision of qualified & junior psychology staff, as well as supporting with the clinical supervision of MDT staff. The role will also involve providing consultation to carers, families & teams, participating in multidisciplinary staff development and contributing to group work.

You will be a senior staff member within the KMPT Psychology Service for Older People, a highly valued and innovative service of over 35 staff including clinical psychologists, music, drama, art, systemic/family therapists, counselling psychologists, clinical associate psychologists (CAPs) and assistant psychologists. Within easy distance of the South Thames Clinical Psychology Training Centre, our service welcomes trainees and takes advantage of post-qualification training courses and events.
