What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Assign codes to ER, outpatient ancillary, surgery, and observation medical records using ICD-10-CM and CPT codes
- Abstract patient accounts with assigned codes and finalize abstracts in Cerner
- Review scripts for medical necessity in the outpatient ancillary area
- Communicate with various departments regarding charge adjustments and patient status clarifications
- Collaborate with team members to ensure timely coding and billing of accounts
What is Required (Qualifications):
- High school diploma and completion of a medical coding certificate program or a 2-year Health Information Management (HIM) program
- RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CPC certification
- Will consider years of experience in lieu of certification, but certification must be obtained within 2 years of hire
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to coding policies and regulations
- Professional demeanor with strong communication skills
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience in outpatient coding or medical records
- Familiarity with 3M Encoder and Dolbey CAC applications
- Previous training experience or mentorship roles
- Strong understanding of governmental coding regulations
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
